What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

Launched in 2014 as The Towns Half Marathon by Oakland local and sports marketing professional, Ryan Dawkins, before being acquired and then cancelled in 2017. Ryan is now spearheading the re-launch of the Oaktown Half to finish his original plans of a runner-focused, hyper-local event, in his hometown.

Runners will get a taste of Oaklands authentic soul, from the steps of City Hall and Jack London Square to Uptown and Lake Merritt, the course will let runners in on the best of Oakland. Like everything else in Oakland, the experience will never be ordinary and always unexpected.

The Oaktown Half is in partnership with the successful Oakland Turkey Trot and continues the non-profit group's efforts to raise impactful funds for Oakland Schools and Alameda County Community Food Bank.

Awards will be given to "Best Decorated Bra" in town - - so jazz up your bra ( sports bra, lacy bra, any bra) and get sassy!! Guys, we aren't excluding you on this one either. For example, you may decorate a shirt with a bra on it - - or wear a bra over your shirt - - Be Creative and FUNNN!!!!

Defined by both the incredible beauty of Lake Tahoe and the towering peaks of the High Sierra, Lake Tahoe is one of the worlds most famous sporting playgrounds. The region has an almost endless variety of spectacular mountain biking trails, adventurous hikes and, of course, waterborne activities on the Big Blue Lake Tahoe one of the largest, deepest and purest alpine lakes on earth.

The Emerald Bay Trail Run starts at Eagle Point and then takes you around Emerald Bay and up the Rubicon Trail to D.L. Bliss State Park to finish at Lester Beach. The course is a 7 mile/11Km (approximate) point to point route. The course features a mostly single track route with moderate climbs and descents. The trail is somewhat technical with natural granite steps. It is hard not to look at the stellar views of Lake Tahoe!

Emerald Bay State Park is considered one of the most beautiful areas in the United States, as evidenced by its status as a Registered Natural Landmark. Carved by ancient glaciers, Emerald Bay offers unequalled scenic hiking, and trail running.

Majestic Emerald Bay is just a small part of this beautiful and pristine State Park covering 1,830 acres of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You will find six miles of both rocky and sandy beaches on the magnificent shoreline. You will see ponderosa and Jeffrey pines, red and white fir, cedar, junipers and cottonwood, and gnarled and stunted sugar pines.

From promontories such as Rubicon Point in D.L. Bliss State Park, you can see over one hundred feet into the depths of Lake Tahoe. From the crest of Eagle Falls in Emerald Bay State Park, you can see a brilliant panorama of Emerald Bay, Fannette Island, Lake Tahoe, and the distant Nevada shore.

Plan on spending the entire day, because once you get here, you wont want to leave.

The Truckee Marathon course truly showcases the majestic and diverse beauty of Truckee and its surroundings. The marathon and half marathon start simultaneously in Historic Downtown Truckee. Quickly after the start the course heads west and circumnavigates Donner Lake. At the 11 mile mark youll face the toughest climb of the course heading up Northwoods Blvd. The final mile or so of the half is a down slope on the brand new Trout Creek Trail. A great place to view the event is at the main venue as the half finishes, the marathon continues and the relay teams tag-off.

Marathoners and relay teams continue to the eastern part of the course on a scenic section of single-track towards Grays Crossing and Old Greenwood. With majestic views of Mt. Rose and the surrounding sagebrush landscape runners continue towards Glenshire before turning onto the Legacy Trail along the Truckee River. Runners then follow this this trail back in to town where the finish celebration will be in full swing.
