What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

Today, with international organisations, local clubs and national events to choose from, there are thousands of races to discover, and we want to help you find them quickly and easily. Below you’ll find selections by running type, running location and some exceptional events to take part in.

MK Marathon Weekend consist of 5 races- MK Marathon, MK Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, Rocket 5K and Superhero Fun Run.

MK Marathon:
Consistently ranked in the top 10 UK marathons, an AIMS/IAAF Grade A certified race, with BARR Gold accreditation for outstanding race management and an amazing stadiumMK finish.

MK Half Marathon:
The MK Half Marathon starts from one of our fabulous Milton Keynes landmarks, the stadiumMK. The first five miles are on wide roads and tree lined boulevards. The half marathon route then continues through picturesque Woughton-on-the-Green and Woolstone parishes.

At mile seven, the half marathon route bears right into the lush Ouzel Valley following the beautiful, meandering River Ouzel onto first Walton Lake, one of the richest spots in Milton Keynes to enjoy wildlife, and then onto the very picturesque Caldecotte Lake. The route then heads west to Ashland with its wondeful wetlands, before following Saxon Street back for a victory lap of the stadiumMK football pitch and that magical stadium finish!

Marathon Relay:
The BMI Saxon Clinic Marathon Relay runs alongside the Milton Keynes Marathon event, pitting teams of four runners (adults only 17+) against each other, each competitor running a leg of 6.2, 6.9, 6.9 and 6.2 miles.
The relay event is open to businesses, charities, clubs or even groups of friends and is characterised by a strong element of friendly competition as teams compete to be seen as the fittest or the fastest. These titles represent not only an enviable PR title, but also bragging rights that last for a full year.

This opportunity does not come around every day and is something not to be missed. Teams either take it in turns to drive or nominate a team driver. Full instructions and maps will be sent to each team before race day. Each team is expected to move around the course in one vehicle either with a dedicated team driver or by sharing the driving.

MK Rocket 5K:
A fun and fast 5k race with proven PB potential running from CMK to the stadium with extra special medal. Dont miss this opportunity to experience the buzz of marathon weekend without the extra mileage!

Superhero Fun Run:
The Superhero Fun Run is a fantastic event for runners (or walkers!) of all ages and abilities. Experience what being a superhero is all about as you cross the stadium finish line cheered by thousands of admiring spectators. We sold out in 2016 with an amazing 1200 Superheroes so dont leave it too late to enter. This is a very colourful and fun addition to the MK Marathon event for the whole family. Whos joining us?

The course is a single lap, traffic free route on closed roads and cycle paths or redways as they are known locally. It combines the tree lined City Centre boulevards with many miles of leafy surrounding suburbs, lake & canal side redways. Crowd support in the town is fantastic & plenty of groups out on the more rural sections as well.

The course is gently undulating with a short hill at mile 24 and has PB potential, but you have to work hard to earn it. Stadium finish is great, you will feel like a hero covering the last mile as you head in towards the finish line and you will receive a cracking medal as well.
We offer a Big Marathon experience with lots of entertainment en route to help motivate you and to attract crowds of spectators to cheer you on. On the event day, you will receive a premium event experience.
