What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

On the go since 2004, the Mens 10K Glasgow has firmly set itself as THE run for men in the west. The life expectancy of a man in Scotland is, shockingly, still the lowest in Europe and three years less than in England and Wales.

Suicide, in addition to other mental health problems, continues to be an issue of high significance to men in Scotland. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people (18-34) in Scotland and almost three out of four suicides are by men. Our aim is to help change this, little by little and the Mens 10K is how we are doing it!

Welcome to the Glencoe Marathon Gathering, featuring the full 26.2 mile Glencoe Marathon, the Mamores Half Marathon and the Glen Nevis 10K.

The off-road marathon is an epic trail run that ascends a total of 1,608 metres through the heart of Glencoe and into the foothills of Ben Nevis.

The route snakes through the pass of Glencoe, surrounded by the towering remains of this ancient super volcano, before climbing 500 metres up the fearsome Devils Staircase. From the eastern edge of the Aonach Eagach Ridge you look straight onto the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor (the great herdsman) before dropping back to sea level at Kinlochleven where the Mamores Half Marathon starts. Keswick Half Marathon is said to be one of the most scenic half marathons in the country. The challenging course takes you around Derwentwater with an extra loop into the Newlands valley.

The race was set up by Keswick Rugby Club in order to raise funds for the club and the youth coaching program. We are one of only a handful of small clubs in the country to have a full-time rugby development officer who spends the majority of his time in the local schools. The half marathon is one of the events that help to fund this coaching program so your support is greatly appreciated.

Come and take part in this very popular annual event. The route is a circuit of Derwentwater, with a loop into the Newlands valley, probably the most scenic 13 miles 192.5 yards in the country.
