What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

The off-road marathon is an epic trail run that ascends a total of 1,608 metres through the heart of Glencoe and into the foothills of Ben Nevis.

The route snakes through the pass of Glencoe, surrounded by the towering remains of this ancient super volcano, before climbing 500 metres up the fearsome Devils Staircase. From the eastern edge of the Aonach Eagach Ridge you look straight onto the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor (the great herdsman) before dropping back to sea level at Kinlochleven where the Mamores Half Marathon starts. A race up and down Britain's highest mountain - at 4406 feet. The Ben Race has been variously described with superlatives - oldest race, toughest race, most iconic race, the supreme test of fitness, etc etc - and whilst these claims are open to challenge, and the race is certainly not for the unfit or faint-hearted, the Ben Nevis Race Association will always defend its status as a very special event, and it is spoken of by participants with awe - and enjoyment. It has been held on the first Saturday in September every year since 1951, bar one, when the elements won.

The route features long and sustained sections of scrambling terrain, which is roughly equivalent to moderate standard rock climbing. The event is only suitable for highly experienced competitors and all entrants are vetted for experience.

The Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace follows in the tradition of Skyrunning, which consists of uncompromising mountain running, such as scrambling along mountain ridges with steep ascents, traverses and descents on technical and challenging terrain.

This Skyrunning race route incorporates two lofty ridges within the Mamores, including the Devils Ridge, which provides a thrilling and airy traverse with Glen Nevis visible ahead and as a yawning drop far below, and Ben Nevis beyond and towering above.

Our race route is set within the Mamores, which are an east - west series of majestic Munros (Scottish Mountains over 3,000ft / 914m) and in this route there are four that will be summited. The Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace was an immediate hit in 2016 and has already established itself in year one as a classic Skyrunning event.
