What you need to know about Running

Running is the world’s most accessible sport. Park runs, colour runs, 5k, 10k, half marathons, marathons and ultras — all you need is a pair of trainers and off you go. Running events are hugely popular on Let’s Do This and it’s a sociable sport, so get some friends involved and achieve something extraordinary.

If you’re starting small, the 5k and 10k events are great fun and definitely worth doing even if you’re training for a bigger challenge further down the line. Getting used to the atmosphere of an event is important. You’re so much more likely to hit a better time if there’s a crowd cheering you on, people in fancy dress and a big celebration at the finish line.

The Alton Water Run has three routes:

The 2k is open to all, including children in pushchairs and teams in fancy dress.

The 5k run is a chip-timed race for children aged 11+ and adults. The route winds through woodlands and fields, a great alternative to Parkrun and fantastic for C25K runners.

The 10k run is a chip-timed race, attracting runners from across the region. This route crosses woodland, fields and country lanes. It can be a great training run as part of a marathon or half marathon programme, it can be a target race for those focusing on their 10k time, and it can be an idyllic off-road setting for runners hoping to complete this distance for the first time. It is open to those aged 15+.

The Alton Water Run has a festival feel with fabulous food stalls, childrens entertainment and side stalls, a caf, picnic area and playground. There is also access to acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside for bird watching, kayaking, hiking and bike riding. There is limited parking. The Alton Water Run is supported by Anglian Water alongside many other regional businesses. The run is a registered charity, raising much-needed funds for the small rural schools around the reservoir Stutton Primary School, Tattingstone Primary School, Holbrook Primary School and Holbrook Academy.
