A Race for Everyone!

Sydney:10 is part of Athletics NSW expanding RunNSW series which features iconic Fun Runs across NSW. We are pleased to say the Sydney 10 will be the same flat fast course finishing in the brand new athletics track at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. In 2019 the Greater Bank will be our 5km Partner and Little Athletics NSW as the 2.5km Event Partner. All races will feature NSW Championship categories and are also open to anyone to compete.

Course Details
Flat, fast course with a finish in the Athletics Centre
All races will start on the famous Dawn Fraser Avenue adjacent to Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC) and on approach to the finish, runners will exit Dawn Fraser Avenue to the north of SOPAC, run along the access lane between SOPAC and the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre and then enter the Athletics Centre via the ‘marathon’ tunnel and complete the final 350m on the track.

This will be a rare opportunity to finish a road race inside an international athletics stadium which will make for a great spectator event.
Raceday Logistics
Event Check In (on Friday or Saturday)
Once you have entered, you will receive a confirmation invoice email. Please retain this for your event collection and check-in. At check-in you will receive a timing chip, event bib and a gift from the Greater Bank. If you have ordered the event t-shirt then you can pick it up at event check in.

1. Early check in:
We will be providing an early check in option on Friday 3 May between 2:00pm and 6:00pm at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre Forecourt. The check in desk will be just beyond the turnstiles of the Athletics Centre. Parking is available on Dawn Fraser Ave nearby.

2. Race day check in:
All participants who did not check-in on the Friday, must report to the registration desk located on the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre forecourt on Saturday 4 May from 5:45am. Check-in on the day closes 45 minutes before the start of each event.

Presentations Timetable
8:00am: Wheelchair 10km
8:50am: Sydney 10km Overall Winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd place over the line)
9:30am: Greater Bank 5km Fun Run winners only (All category winners shall be sent out by mail)
10:00am: NSW Little Athletics 2km (NSW Medals for: 2km U14 Male and Female, U12 Male and Female shall be awarded on the day)

Do I need a timing tag and event bib?
An event specific chest bib will be worn on the front of each runner’s top, which will have a timing chip embedded into the back of it. This chest bib will be worn for the race on the day only, and may be disposed of after the runner has crossed the line.

Pace Groups
The Sydney Striders are providing pace groups for the Sydney10. There will be two runners running at running at the following paces: 40 minutes, 45 minutes, 50 minutes, 55 minutes, 60 minutes.

Athletics NSW Medals
These will be awarded to the top three ELIGIBLE runners in each age category

10km Open Wheelchair Male, Open Wheelchair Female
Prize money shall also be issued to the top three Open Wheelchair Winners
Prize money amounts are TBD.

10km U20 Male, Open Male, Open Female, Masters Male & Masters Female
5km U20 Female, U18 Male, U18 Female, U16 Male & U16 Female
2km U14 Male, U14 Female, U12 Male & U12 Female

Team medals will also be issued to teams made up of 4 runners from the same club in each of the above categories.

There will be NO team medals presented on the day. These will be collected by clubs following the event.

Outright winners will also be awarded prize money
Prize money amounts are TBD.

A monetary bonus will be split equally to any athlete(s) that break the Sydney:10 course records of Liam Adams 29:22 (2015) or Gwen Jorgensen 32:12 (2015). This bonus amount is TBD.

What happens at the Start?
The start line will be outside SOPAC on Dawn Fraser Ave for all races. Runners need to report to the start line 10 minutes before their race. There will be NO SEEDING groups on the start line so we ask that all runners use common sense to SELF SEED themselves. This means faster runners start at the front, moderate runners in the middle and slower runners/walkers at the back. Any prams should also start at the back.

Where are the toilets?
There are three toilet stops along the course:
– Cathy Freeman park at the 500m/4.5km mark of each loop
– The Brick Pit located at the far turn around point. (2.3km / 7.3km)
– Adjacent to the start line on the ANZ stadium side of Dawn Fraser Ave (0km)
– There are also ample toilet facilities at SOPAC which is the event hub.

Where are the drink stations?
– Brick Pit Roadside 2.3km and 7.3km (water only)
– Cathy Freeman Park Roadside 4.8km and 9.0km (water only)
– Finish line (water and electrolyte)

What happens at the Finish Line?
The finish line will be the finish line of the athletics track inside SOPAC. Runners will enter via the marathon tunnel at the southern end of the ground and complete 350m of the track. A recovery area will be set up after the finish line for runners to recovery with water and electrolyte and remove their timing chips. After exiting the recovery zone runners can meet their friends and family up in the grandstand OR out on the grass infield.

Where can I warm up?
The event precinct with be the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Runners, friends and family are encouraged to use the stands and outfield of the track as their ‘home base’. Runners can warm up on the grass infield of SOPAC, outside the stadium or on parts of the course. The track itself will NOT be available for warm ups.

Can my club set up a tent?
Yes! Clubs are invited to set up their club tents between the home straight and the grandstand of SOPAC. Please email [email protected] to book a position for your tent. Also note that pegs/stakes cannot be used to hold tents to the ground.

Is there a baggage area?
Yes. A secure baggage area will be located in VIP room 2 on the concourse of the Athletics Centre. Runners who leave their bags inside the baggage area will write their name and bib number on the front and leave their bag with an attendant. Do NOT leave valuables in bags left in the baggage area. This is a service to runners but Athletics NSW cannot guarantee security of items left.

How can I view my official result?
Runners will be able to see their result on the main score board as soon as they cross the finish line! Live results will also be found via the ANSW live results page;

What Presentations will be held on the day?
Medal presentations will happen as per timetable below:
8:00am: Wheelchair 10km
8:50am: Sydney 10km winners only (NSW Medals for: Open Male & Female, U/20 Male, Masters Male & Female will be sent out by mail)
9:30am: Greater 5km Fun Run winners only (NSW Medals for: U20 Female, U18 Male & U18 Female, U16 Male & U16 Female shall be sent out by mail)
10:00am: NSW Little Athletics 2.5km Winners only (NSW Medals for: 2.5km U14 Male, U14 Female, U12 Male & U12 Female shall be sent out by mail)

The remainder category and team results will be listed on the website by 10:00am and medals/prizes mailed out to winners within 14 days.

What are the prizes and prize categories?
Outright winners will be awarded prize money

2nd place – $300
3rd place – $200

Do I need to wear a timing tag and event bib?
ANSW and RunNSW members (excluding dual members) are required to bring their ANSW bib and timing tag and are not required to report to athlete check in.

Non members and dual members must report to athlete check in at least 45 minutes before the race start time to collect your race bib and timing tag. The timing tag must be worn on your shoe and returned in the buckets before exiting the finish area. Tags held in your hand or in your pocket will not be read at the finish line and so a time cannot be confirmed.

When will ANSW team results be worked out?
Team results will be worked out in the week following the Sydney 10. The first four eligible athletes from a club in each division will be the default team. Should an athlete be running for a team outside of their own age division a club representative needs to fill in a TEAMS PROXY FORM located at check in on the day.
Team medal winners will be sent their medals via the post and results listed on the RunNSW and Athletics NSW websites.
