The Standard Distance bcu Coffs TRI will take place on Sunday 3rd March 2019 and is a National Qualifying Race for the 2019 World Championships in Switzerland as well as the NSW State Championship Race to determine the best triathletes in NSW.

On Saturday 2nd March are Races for Kids and the ‘Enticer’ Triathlon (300m/7km/2km) to encourage people to ‘try a tri’ with the aim of stepping up to the main event the following year.

With its beautiful location and world-class course, the bcu Coffs Tri Standard Distance Race is one of the must do events on the national Triathlon calendar. Competitors will enjoy a 1.5km ocean swim in the protected harbour; a 40km cycle on a CLOSED course; finishing with a 10km run around the picturesque Coffs Jetty Foreshores. It offers both individual and team options.

Standard Distance

  • Swim - 1500m Open water swim in protected Harbour
  • Cycle - 40km 2-Lap course on FULLY CLOSED road, out along Hogbin Drive to Toormina & return
  • Run - 10km Flat, 2-Lap course out to the southern break wall and along the Coffs Jetty

Enticer Distance

  • Swim - 300m Open water swim in protected Harbour
  • Cycle - 7km 2-Lap course on a FULLY CLOSED road, out along Jordan Esplanade to the southern break wall & return
  • Run - 2km 2-Lap course around the Coffs Jetty Foreshores

Kids Tri

  • 6-7 Years Aquathon: 100m Wade, 300m Run
  • 8-10 Years Triathlon: 100m Swim, 2.5km Bike, 500m Run
  • 11-13 Years Triathlon: 200m, 5km Bike, 1km Run

    Check-in is a compulsory part of participating in any of the events and will be available during the following times at the Competitor’s Village:

    Saturday 2nd March: 11.30am- 6.30pm

    *Please note:

    • check in for the kids races closes 30 minutes prior to each Race start.
    • there will be no registrations on Sunday morning.

    Bike racking will take place on Saturday 2nd March between 4.30pm – 6.30pm ONLY, for Sunday’s Standard Distance event. Security Guards will be on duty in the transition area on Saturday night to watch over your bikes.

    Saturday 2nd March from 1.30pm – Kids Events and Enticer Triathlon

    Sunday 3rd March from 7am – Standard (Olympic) Distance (1.5k/40k/10k) Event for Individuals and Teams.

    Compulsory race briefings are 10 minutes before your race start time.

    Kit List

    RACE NUMBER/STICKERS supplied at Registration.
    SWIM: Goggles, appropriate swimwear/Tri Suit, Wetsuit (optional), Cap (provided), Sunscreen
    BIKE: Bike, Helmet, Shoes, Water Bottle, Spare tubes, Sunglasses, Covered Torso. Race Belt
    RUN: Running Shoes, Cap/Visor, Sunglasses. Torso must be covered.

    Summary of Race Rules
    • Practise good sports conduct at all times; no cheating, no cutting corners. Be respectful of all other competitors.
    • The Swim cap provided must be worn during the swim leg
    • The Bike sticker must be displayed on the seat post of the bike for the duration of the cycle leg
    • Bicycle helmets are compulsory. The bicycle helmet must remain securely fastened on the head of a competitor at all times once the bicycle is removed from the bicycle rack, while on the bicycle course and until the bicycle is replaced on the bicycle rack.
    • The upper Torso must be covered during the Cycle and Run legs
    • No drafting. The bicycle draft zone is 10 metres long (from the front wheel of the first bike to the front wheel of the next). Competitors have 20 seconds to pass through this zone
    • No blocking (keep to the left as far as possible to enable passing). Remember passing on the inside is illegal and can result in disqualification of the athlete.
    • Obey the road rules at all times
    • Do not cross centre lines on cycle course, this is instant disqualification.
    • Appropriate footwear must be worn for the duration of the cycle and run legs
    • Run: The Race Number provided must be worn on the front torso. Pins will be provided or use a Race Belt.
    • No iPods or music devices permitted
    • Bike security sticker needs to match the race number on your armband in order to remove your bike.
    • Familiarise yourself with the course – information and maps are at the Registration area.
    • Be kind and thankful to the volunteers 🙂
    • Have FUN and enjoy the day!
    • Your timing band must be placed on your left ankle and worn for the entire race.
    • You must cross the mats at all timing locations to receive an official race time.
    • Timing bands are non-transferable. Do not switch with other competitors.
    • Do not walk over timing mats prior to the race, as this will set off your race time.
    • Individuals will have disposable chips and teams will have a transferable one which must be handed in at the completion of the race.
    How do I know if I am registered?

    What is the minimum age to compete in the events?
    bcu Standard Coffs Tri: Individual competitors must be a minimum of 15 years old as at 31/12/2018. Team participants must be a minimum of 14 years old as at 31/12/2018.
    bcu Coffs Enticer: Individual competitors must be a minimum of 13 years old on Race Day.
    bcu Coffs Kids Tri: Competitors must be a minimum of 6 years old on Race Day.

    Are there cut-off times?
    Yes. In the Standard Distance race, the last rider will need to be off the bike course by 10.00am

    Are wetsuits allowed?
    Wetsuits are permitted if the water temperature is below 22oC.

    Is drafting allowed?
    The bicycle draft zone is 10 metres long (from the front edge of the front bike to the front wheel of the next). Competitors have 20 seconds to pass through this zone.

    Can I use a mountain bike?
    Yes. A mountain bike or road bike is fine as long as it’s in good working order

    Can I listen to a personal music player while racing?
    No iPods or music devices are permitted

    What happens if I get a flat tyre on the bike leg?
    Practise changing a flat tyre so you know what to do if it happens during the race. Make sure you carry spares. Move off the road into a safe spot to change your tyre.

    What if I am unable to stay for the Presentation?
    If you are unable to stay for the presentation and have placed in your category, you must contact the Race Director within 2 weeks of the event to arrange for collection of your prize. Alternatively, you may arrange for your prize to be sent for a surcharge.
