Bowral Classic 2018 routes

Riders can choose from one of four courses, which have all been revamped for 2018.

The 175km Maxi Classic: a challenging ride through some of the most breathtaking scenery you can experience on two wheels.

The 120km Challenge Classic: for those with less time on their hands, or distance in their legs.

The 90km Rouleurs Classic: a brand-new option in the 2018 Bowral Classic.

The 35km Social Classic: for a cruisier and casual experience, ride through the most stunning areas of the Southern Highlands, with the opportunity to stop in at local wineries and cafes along the way.

All loops will conclude at the Eridge Park where riders can do a victory lap around the velodrome before heading over to the Event Village to grab a well-deserved cold drink and something to eat.

Registration and Kit Collection

All riders are required to register for the ride. All riders who register on or before 31 August 2018 will have their registration details, timing chip (if applicable) and any merchandise ordered delivered by mail.

All those riders registering after 1 September 2018 will need to collect their registration pack on Saturday 20th October 1– 4pm or Sunday 21st October 5:00am – 7:00am at the event village (Eridge Park- Eridge Park Rd, Burradoo).

Start Times

The ride starts will be staggered and will be from Bong Bong St, Bowral. Maps of the exact starting location and procedure will be sent to each individual rider.

The first lot of 175km Maxi Classic riders will be sent off from 6.30am.

Further details, including riders wave start times, will be sent prior to the event.

*Please show up on time and ready to ride at your designated time. Please allow plenty of time to spare – the area will be congested as Bong Bong Street will be closed.
*Riders MUST leave with their allotted distance – for example 120km riders MUST NOT depart with the 175km riders and visa versa.
*There are toilets on the start line.
*Find your start group marshalling area along Boolwey Street. You will then be marshalled into your wave start time.
*Please remember that this is NOT a race. If you miss your start time there is no problem so long as it is within your distance group.

Safety Briefing

A safety briefing document will be emailed to all registered riders prior to the event. Important information will be disseminated in this document.
*If you show up early you can slot into a group of 75 and depart with an earlier wave.
*If you show up late you can slot into a group of 75 and depart with a later wave.
*If your team mates signed up at a different speed to you and you want to ride with them you can slot into their wave of 75
*Most importantly, have fun!

Kit List

There will be a number of rest stops along the course where there will be a water station, food, mechanics and First Aid.

But these rest stops are few and far between (the first rest stop is not until 81km) so riders are to be self-reliant. Riders should carry 2 x tubes, C02 head unit and canisters, puncture kit, mobile phone, glasses, appropriate cycle related clothing and money.

FAQs

Timing Chips

If you are travelling to Bowral with your bike on a roof or rear rack, do not attach your timing chip until you arrive in Bowral. The airflow from high-speed vehicle travel will damage the timing chip.

Before the ride, remove the seat-post sticker from the backing paper and fold it around your bike’s seat post so the number is facing back towards rear of the bike.

Mechanical Support

Mechanical support will be provided at the start line. There will be mobile support stations at each of the three rest stops.

First Aid & Emergency

The event will be covered by First Aid specialists, State Medical Assistance. First aid will be at the ride start and stationed at each of the three rest stops. There will also be First Aid vehicles on course.

Merchandise

Merchandise will be on sale at the event village on Saturday and Sunday.

Rider Handbook

Make sure you read the comprehensive Rider Guidebook as it contains all the detail about the day. This will be emailed out prior to the event.

Insurance

Insurance is compulsory. The cost of this cover is $10 per rider and will be added to the ticket price.
