Known for it's beautiful scenery, the Hell of the West Triathlon isn't as hellish as it sounds. With a freshwater river swim, pan-flat cycle and riverside run, this race is perfect for all triathletes. Come along for the finisher's medal and stunning sights.

How to enter the Hell of the West Triathlon

Hell of the West Triathlon route

Swim 2km

This consists of a 1km upstream then a 1km downstream return, in the MacIntyre River (freshwater!!) starting and finishing at the Town Boat ramp. Please note that long and short sleeved wetsuits are not permitted unless water temperature is 23 degrees or below.

Cycle 80km

This is “dead flat”, 40 km west out the Barwon Highway towards St George and return. The road surface is reasonable with some short sections that require careful riding.

Please note that this is NOT a closed road.

Run 20km

This consists of three loops along the towns river path, which faces east and west. Aid stations are placed every kilometre.

Raceday Logistics

E&E Waste Hell of the West Triathlon Sunday 10th February 2019

3.30am – Bike compound opens EASTERN end only. Officials will conduct a visual inspection
4-5.30am – Town Pool Opens for Competitors (Re-opens at 8am-12 noon free of charge for competitors and public)
4.30am – Transition Closes. Competitors make way to Town Boat Ramp.

Swim Start Times

5.00am First Wave – Open Male & Female
5.05am Second Wave – 18 to 39 Males
5.10am Third Wave – 40 to 70+ Males
5.15am Fourth Wave – Females
5.20am Fifth Wave – Teams

Swim Finish

5.25am – First Swimmer passes through a transition
6.30am – Last Swimmer passes through a transition

Cycle Finish

7.25am – Leading Cyclist completes cycling leg
9.40am – Last Competitor completes cycle course

Race Finish

8.40am – Winning Male crosses the line
9.10am – Winning Female crosses the line
12 Noon – Presentation and Random Draws Begin

CategoriesOPEN Category – awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place:

1st $2500, 2nd $1000, 3rd $500

Each Age Group Category – awarded only to 1st place:

1st $150 (2nd & 3rd place maybe awarded with vouchers if sponsors can be secured. This is TBA.)

Is there cut off times?

Yes! the progress cut off times on the day are as follows: 1hr swim, 3.5hrs cycle, 2.5hrs run will apply & competitors will only be allowed to continue if the relevant doctor/official believes he or she can do so without injury or disruption to race proceedings such as presentations or pack up.

Will prizes be awarded?

Prize Money for HOTW is awarded to each Male & Female Athletes.

1st $2500, 2nd $1000, 3rd $500

Each Age Group Category – awarded only to 1st place:

    Hell of the West Triathlon is a long course triathlon that attracts professional triathletes, triathlon enthusiasts and lifestyle/amateur triathletes who all participate in a relaxed, safe, exciting and competitive environment.2km Swim in the MacIntyre River (freshwater), 80km Cycle on the Barwon Highway (flat 40km out and back) and 20km Run along the towns river path (flat 3 loop running east and west).
