The Maitland River Run. Offering a picturesque 4km course in and around the Mall and River Bank of Maitland's CBD, the event is open to novice and elite competitors. You can either run/walk the 1 Lap 4km course, 2 laps 8km course or 3 laps 12km course. There is also an improved Half Marathon course and our classic 1609m (one mile) sprint event open to serious and novice runners who would like to 'Run the Mile'!

Course Details

Course Distances

The event offers a 4km run/walk course in either the 1 Lap 4km course, 2 lap 8km course or 3 lap 12km course. There will also be a 1609m (one mile) sprint event, The Mercury Maitland Mile, which is open to serious and novice runners who would like to "run the mile". See below for Half Marathon course.

1 LAP – 4km

The course will start in The Levee, High St at the corner of Bulwer St and run north along High St until a right turn at Stilsby Lane next to the Shenanigans at The Imperial. Then right at the back to follow the course markings along the back of the shops/car park and onto the top River Foreshore. Then follow the Foreshore path east until a left turn were the course meets the bottom Foreshore path and run along the path, under the bridge and to the park near at Sempill St. Then return to the river path, back to the top path and to a turn point near Hunter St. The course then returns along the path and turns left to the ramp that leads down to Cathedral St. The course moves along Cathedral St and turns right into High st and runs past the post office and to the finish. The course is very well marked.

2 LAPS – 8KM

3 LAPS – 12km

Half Marathon

The course will start in The Levee, High St at the corner of Bulwer St and run north along High St until a right turn at Stilsby Lane next to the Shenanigans at The Imperial. Then right at the back to follow the course markings along the back of the shops/car park and onto the top River Foreshore. Then follow the Foreshore path east until a left turn were the course meets the bottom Foreshore path and run along the path, under the bridge and to the park near at Sempill St. Then return to the river path, back to the top path and to a turn point near Hunter St. The course then returns along the path and turns left to the ramp that leads down to Cathedral St. The course moves along Cathedral St and turns left onto the footpath of High St for 100m then to a crossing point of High St to Lee St. The course runs down Lee St using part road and part path until a small park. Run through the park and cross Athel Dombrian Dr and follow the marked course into some road reserve away form the road until a bridge which goes over the New England Hwy. Then follow the marked paths north to a turn point and back to an intersection on the path which takes runners west around the park before turning before the main park entrance off Elgin St. Then runners follow the path back to the bridge, cross at Athel Dombrain Drive, run up Lee St, cross High St and return to the start point, they then do one more lap. This is a very cool flat course (apart from 4 ramped bridge crossings). There are drink stations at 2,4,6.5,8 and 10km, which repeat at the second lap. This course is subject to final approval.

River Maitland Mile

The course is a 1609m loop. The course will run clockwise around the course starting from the corner of Bourke and High St (in front of the Post Office). The course will then run north and into the access lane next to the Imperial Hotel and follow the main course along the back of the shops and then along the Foreshore down to Cathedral St an then back to High St and the main finish line at Bulwer and High St. The course is very well marked and marshalled.This is always an exciting race with runners passing the finish area twice.

Timetable

7:00am – Half Marathon

9:00am – 12km 3 Lap Course

10:15am – 8km 2 Lap Course

11:00am – 4km 1 Lap Course

11:45am – Maitland Mile

Start and Finish Locations

The course will revert to looping though the mall. It will start and finish at the new Link building on crn of Bulwer and high st, in the Levee. The main course is a 4 km loop. For the half marathon they will diverts at St Peters off Cathedral St into High St and head down Lee St to access Maitland Park. See the course maps for each race to see the whole course.

Race Kit Collections

Saturday 1 June - 10am - 2pm - River Realty 5 Church St Maitland - just up from the Levee

Sunday 2 June - 6.00am - 11.00am - Race office - The Levee on High St (off Crn High St and Bulwer St). We can accept late entries on race day.

Please collect your race at least 40 minutes before your race start.

Drink Stations

There is one drink station approx 2km into the course and also at the finish line area as you run through your laps. Water and electrolyte will be available.

Travel

Parking

Limited race day parking will be available in the normal CBD parking areas in Maitland. We suggest you park in the undercover parking off Bulwer St or the car park off St Andrews St which is on the river.

Spectators

There is no shortage of things to do in and around the Race Compound while waiting for runners to finish. There will be food and drinks available at local Levee outlets. So bring the crew to cheer you along!

FAQs

Race Categories

Ages are as on race day 3 June 2018 . Male and female age categories will be:
Children: 6-11(Mile , 4 and 8km only), 12-13,14-15, 16-17
Adults: 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
Medals awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category.

Children

Children over 5 years are eligible to enter the 4km. Children over 8 years are eligible for the 8km race. Only children aged 12 years or older can be entered in the 12km run. All children under 12 years should be accompanied by an adult. Strollers are permitted in the event, however parents with strollers should start at the rear of the pack and at all times allow runners/walkers to pass them.
Note: Special consideration will be given to experienced runners under 12 years of age.

Race Timing

H Events will be timing the event with the world famous IPICO timing system. Computer timing chips will be distributed to each competitor. You must wear the chip on your shoe, laced into the shoe. Please remember NO CHIP equals NO RESULT. Interim times will be available soon after the last competitor is finished. Timing chips must be returned at the end of the race in the bins provided before you leave the race compound. Timing chips not returned will incur a replacement fee of $50.00.

Use of IPOD

Use of ipods that do not allow runners to hear marshal and safety instructions is not encouraged. If a protest is made by another competitor you may be disqualified. This rule is to make the event safe and fun.

Prizes

Finishers Medals are available for entries. Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in all age categories and overall Male and Female winners. Random draws will take place during all presentations.

Race Presentation

The race presentation will be held at approximately 12.00pm at the Race Compound.

Left Bag Security

A secure bag area will be provided at the Start/Finish area for athletes to leave their personal belongings while racing.

First Aid

Medical personnel will be available at the start, on the course and finish Race compound.

Wheel Chair Participants

Due to the various uneven surfaces a specific wheel chair race or category is unfortunately not possible. We are happy to look at individual circumstances. Please contact 02 4934 8138 if you have any concerns.

    I absolutely loved this community run. Very well run. Everyone, organisers and volunteers, were friendly, happy and helpful. Aid stations were in the perfectly timed. Can not recommend this run enough. Will be back.
