The Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival is not just a marathon event. In addition to the traditional marathon distance, there is a half marathon, 10km, 5km, and 2km race. Set during the Queensland winter, participants can expect mild temperatures and blue skies. This weather and a flat course is the perfect combination for participants to receive a personal best. Come out and enjoy a day experiencing the stunning coastline of the Alexandra Headlands.

Channel 7 Marathon

Cut Off Times: There is an overall cut off time of 6 hours; with interim checkpoints.

Categories: 17-24, 25-29, 30-34. 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+

McDonalds Half Marathon

Cut Off Times: There is an overall cut off time of 3 hours; with interim checkpoints.

Categories: Wheelchair, 14-17, 18-20, 21-24, 25-29, 30-34. 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+

Westpac 10km

Cut Off Times: Entrants must be finished by midday, with 1 interim checkpoint as follows;
6.4km – 11 am; Picnic Point Turn around (outer most turn of the course)

Categories: U14, U16, U18, U20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Cricks 5km

Cut Off Times: Entrants must be finished by midday

Categories: U14, U16, U18, 18-39, 40+

Wheelchair participants are more than welcome to participate in the 2km event (for safety reasons please start from the back of the field). All wheelchair entrants are allowed one accompanying adult as a helper free of charge (please see the info desk when collecting your race pack to collect a race band).

Race Pack Collection

ALL race packs must be picked up before race day on one of the following dates:

Alexandra Headlands Surf Life Saving

Friday August 2, 1pm-6pm

Saturday August 3, 10am – 4pm

Participants must bring a photo ID or a copy of their registration confirmation to collect their race pack. You can get a friend to pick up your race pack as long as they can present the registration confirmation.


Public Transport

There will be changes to the bus routes within the race area between 4am and 1pm on Sunday, August 4.

Race Day Parking

Participants are free to park in the car park on Mari St. You can access the the car park via left turn from Pacific Terrace onto Alex Parade and follow slip lane.

There is also parking on Mooloolaba State School for $10.


The best place for spectators to cheer on their racers is at the music and aid stations. Refer to the course maps for these locations.


The Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival could always use more help. Group volunteers as well as individuals can also receive a donation towards their organisation and a t shirt, making this a very good fundraising method.

Can I transfer my entry to someone else?

Yes. Entries can be transferred to someone else very easily. Whoever intends to race, needs to bring a copy of the confirmation email to race pack collection to collect their bib. Once they have their bib, they need to bring it to late entries to complete the transfer. Transfers are charged a $10 fee.

Can I transfer my distance?

Yes. However, if you would like to change your race distance, it will be dependent on the race availability, and transfers will be charged a $10 fee.

Can I run with a pram?

Yes. Participants of all races are allowed to run with a pram, but the race organiser ask that you start in the back.

Can I run with headphones?

Participants are allowed to run with headphones so long as they are cautious of their surroundings.

Do I need to enter if I am running with my child?

All participants must register for an event. If you are registered to participate in a different event from your child but would also like to run with your child, you do not need to enter twice. You do, however, need to pick up an armband of participation from the information tent.

Can I walk my event?

Walkers are more than welcome to participate in the 10km, 5km, and 2km events.

Please note: All participants must be finished by 12:00pm, so it is important to be confident you will be able to finish your desired distance by that time.
