The Turtle and the Lamb Trail Run routes

With three events to choose from, there’s something for everyone from those just starting out and young ‘uns right through to hardened, dirt splattered, challenge loving mountain runners.

The 19km course is sure to test those up for a challenge – Starting at the popular Davies Creek Camp Node 3, the course climbs to Turtle Rock, travels along the ridge to grab its breath before ripping into one of the greatest downhill runs ever (The Hurtle Down the Turtle) to Nodes 5 & 6. Runners then turn further up the valley via Davies Creek Road to reach the Lamb’s Head Ridge Trail Head where the second big climb bleats its way up to 1100m asl and the Lamb’s Head (Kahlpahlim Rock) Junction (no out and back to Kahlpahlim required) before dancing down the Kahlpahlim Rock Trail (The Jam Down the Lamb). A romantic moonlit ramble back along Davies Creek Road returns runners to the finish at Node 3 to complete a classic run over a cracking ‘figure 8’ course. This is a tough event – junior entries will be judged on an individual basis and will be at the discretion of event coordinators.

The 6km course is certainly achievable but plenty tough. It is the first loop of the long course and includes the climb to Turtle Rock, travelling along the ridge to grab the breath before ripping into one of the greatest downhill runs ever (The Hurtle Down the Turtle) to Nodes 5 & 6. Where the long course runners turn right on Davies Creek Road ready to lay into the lamb with darkness approaching, 6km runners breath a sigh of quite possibly relief and turn left for the short dirt road section back to the finish at Node 3.

The 3km course is a ‘Taste of the Turtle’. Starting at Camp Node 3, entrants will make their way onto the Turtle Rock track and run / walk the ‘gentle’ climb towards Turtle Rock. At a bit over 1km the track steepens and short course participants will turn and enjoy the steady downhill back to the finish line at Node 3.
