The Roads. The Glory. The Banter.

Welcome to the ultimate winter cycling escape to the sun, bringing together a stunning riding location, dream race set-up and a world class rider experience on and off the bike. Where one day of riding is never enough and you can immerse yourself in everything you love about cycling during the biggest cycling event on the planet.

Velothon has taken what we think are the best elements of a Gran Fondo style race and transplanted this format in to the winterless Sunshine Coast. Fantastic roads and routes, managed roads, King of the Mountain and Sprint stages, all combined with a perfect riding climate and sublime scenery. Off the bike every ride starts and finishes in and around the Mooloolaba area, with a dedicated Velo Clubhouse right on the Mooloolaba beachfront. Open throughout each day and in to the evening for riders, friends and family to relax and share in the experience.

3 Day Velo - 3 day ride, 361km of riding, 5,340m of climbing, sold or team.

1 Day Velo - 1 day ride, 152km OR 90km of riding, 2,073m or 1,073m of climbing, solo.

    FAQs

    Ride Rules

    - Must be 18 years and over

    - Velothon Sunshine Coast is a ride, not a race unless in a designated ‘Green Zone’

    - Cyclists must maintain a 22km/h average speed. If the tail vehicle travelling at this speed overtakes a cyclist, this cyclist is then unsupported until such time this cyclist catches the tail vehicle and re-joins the ride envelope

    - Cyclists are bound by Queensland Road Rules:

  • Ride as close as possible to the left side (or on the road shoulder) on a single lane road. Or, you may take up any position within the lane on a multi-lane road
  • Ride to the left of any oncoming vehicle
  • Not overtake another vehicle on the left if that vehicle is indicating and turning left
  • Not overtake another vehicle on the left if it is not safe
  • Not ride with more than 2 riders side by side unless you are overtaking another rider
  • Ride no more than 1.5m apart, if travelling beside another rider
  • Helmets are compulsory
  • Police and event organisers urge riders to adopt a single file approach where possible and give due consideration to other road users to avoid incidents
  • Cyclists will be given the opportunity to contest for Sprint Champion and King of the Mountain (KOM) sections at various points across the different stages. These are classified as ‘Green Zones’, the road will be closed, in the direction of ride, to vehicular traffic (other than Queensland Police and Event Personnel vehicles). All due care must still be taken by individual cyclists. Green Zones will be under race conditions.
  • Velo Clubhouse

The Velo Clubhouse will be located at Cotton Tree Park, Maroochydore and will offer everything you need post ride each day. It will feature full-service facilities for you and your bike so you can quickly recover before relaxing and socialising with fellow riders.

Head straight back to the Velo Clubhouse from the Stage Finish Line for the Velo Recovery Hour where you can grab a coffee and sustenance, get a massage (please pre-book) and sit back and relax with mates and other riders to reflect on the day’s ride.

Once the legs have recovered, head back to your accommodation to refresh before Velo Happy Hour starts at 2:00 pm. Reflect some more over a beverage before the Daily Awards and finish your evening off watching the Tour highlights. The Velo Clubhouse will close at 6:30 pm every night so that riders can enjoy the variety of local restaurants.
