Upper Murray Challenge
Green Island Ocean SwimGreen Island QLD 4871, Australia

The annual Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim is set to make a splash with competitors taking on the 1.5km and 3km swims, as well as a shorter 500m distance swim.

This unique Great Barrier Reef competition takes place on the leeward side of the island with each leg of the event offering a variety of conditions from shallows to wind chop and tidal flow. Water temperatures around this time of year average 24 degrees with air temperatures around 28 degrees.

The Great Adventures Green Island Swim is a community event and is supported by Surf Life Saving Queensland and the Cairns Crocs.

The 500m, 1.5km and 3km swims are open to swimmers 12-years and over. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall for men and women in the 1.5km and 3km event. Prizes will also be presented to 500m swimmers. A nippers/beginners swim will take place on a course parallel to the beach. Registration is on the day and is free of charge

Long Course Weekend Jervis Bay17 Hawke St, Huskisson NSW 2540, Australia

The stunning Jervis Bay, NSW is the home to The Long Course Weekend (LCW) in 2019. The unique event lasts three days and this fun, inclusive format is ideal for clubs, training groups and families to come along and enjoy the benefits of training and racing together.

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening, where the LCW athletes have The Jervis Bay Swim to complete a 3.8km open water swim that takes place at Jervis Bay. The Swim also has a 1.9km and 950m distances.

On Saturday the attention turns to The Jervis Bay Grand Fondo, a 180km ride of undulating countryside that also incorporates 90km and 45km distances to attract athletes of all abilities.

To finish the weekend, the athletes will complete The Run a 42.2km marathon taking in the beautiful coastline of Jervis Bay and Huskinson. There is also a 21.1km run and a 10km run which allows everyone to be involved.

More than 1500 competitors are expected to attend the LCW with approximately 300 athletes attempting to receive the Long Course Weekend medal, which entails completing all three of the longest distances. Successful LCW athletes will be awarded with the LCW medal and polo shirt at the finish line presentation on Sunday after the marathon.

Long Course Weekend Jervis Bay

Coogee Courage Multisport Festival will become one of Sydneys iconic fitness events., What an opportunity to run, swim, walk and get amongst Coogee with your friends, your family and even your neighbours. Whether its to challenge yourself, to have some fun, or to raise funds for the Royal Hospital For Women Foundation, the Coogee Courage Multisport Festival has something for everyone. The Coogee Courage Multisport Festival comprises the Coogee Climb For The Royal and the Coogee Island Challenge.

The Coogee Climb For The Royal is an uphill run starting at Trenerry Reserve, and will see participants ascend Coogees steepest hill. The hill is some 450 Metres in length and in some sections the gradient is 13%. Attendees will be treated to a start line festival, located at Trenerry Park with food trucks, live entertainment, big screens showing action on the hill and the finish line, merchandise, exhibitors, VIP hospitality and more.

The Coogee Island Challenge attracts more than 1,000 swimmers taking part in the annual 800m Junior Dash, the 1km Open Water Swim or the main event, the 2.4km Open Water Swim around Wedding Cake Island.

What you need to know about swimming

Swimming races and open water swimming events generally tend to be between 1—10km in length, however, more challenging swims can be up to 80km long. Swims over 10km are classed as Marathon Swims, These events take place in lakes or in the sea, often with a great atmosphere and a festival vibe. If you’re just starting out, get some practice in a pool first, temperature and choppiness are factors to consider before diving in.
