Route information
Marathon
The Marathon will start on the high ground between Fort Augustus and Foyers (B862) and will drop down to the banks of Loch Ness at Foyers (B852). From there, the route follows the loch’s south eastern shore, heading north east towards Dores on the northern tip of the loch.
From Dores, the race heads directly into the centre of Inverness (B862), turning left over the main road bridge and left again for the last half mile along the River Ness to the finish at Bught Park in the centre of Inverness.
10k
The Start is on Culduthel Avenue (near junction with Culduthel Road B681). From the Start, the route travels up Culduthel Road turning right on to the Southern Distributor Road and continuing on the Southern Distributor Road.
The route then turns left onto Essich Road and turning right down Torbreck Road before arriving at the t-junction on the Dores Road (B862).  (From Torbreck Road/ B862 junction, the route follows same route as the Loch Ness Marathon to the Finish).  
Turning right onto Dores road, the route continues along the same road directly into the heart of Inverness, turning left into Cavell Gardens, following Ness Bank and Castle Road and turning left over main town road bridge, and left again immediately after the bridge into Ness Walk.  The route continues along the edge of the River Ness to the Finish at the Bught Park in the centre of Inverness.
5k
The route starts at the Bught Park and does a loop near the park before crossing over ‘the Islands’ and following Ness Bank into the heart of Inverness.  Runners will turn left over the main town road bridge and left again immediately after the bridge into Ness Walk. The route continues along the edge of the River Ness before finishing at the Bught Park.
The Wee Nessie
The Wee Nessie follows a short route of approx 800m around Bught Park allowing children to run, jog or toddle at their own pace. Buggies are welcome too!

Runners and spectators coming to the Event Village are asked to avoid parking in the Bught Park area due to limited parking. It is recommended that you use:
  • Parking in the centre of town and walk along the river to Bught Park (approx 1 mile).
  • Use public transport where possible
  • Car sharing where possible

  • You must be aged 18 and over to enter the Marathon.
  • You must be aged 15 and over to enter the 10k.
  • 5k open to all ages
  • You must be aged 5 and under to enter the Wee Nessie race.

There is loads going on in the Event Village (free entry) during the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running for both runners and spectators alike, including a pre-race Pasta Party, Sports Expo, Baxters Food & Drink Fayre, pipe bands, live music and kids’ activities.

No, headphones are not allowed at any races adhering to Scottish and UK Athletics rules.

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on the course.

Are buggies and pushchairs allowed in any of the races?
For safety reasons, buggies and pushchairs are not permitted in the marathon or 10k. Buggies are allowed in the 5k and are also welcome in the Wee Nessie, which is for pre-school age children (5 and under).

Yes, there are showers and changing facilities available at the event.

Is there an age requirement to enter any of the events at the Baxters Loch Ness Festival of Running?
You must be 18 and over to enter the marathon, 15 and over to enter the 10k, there is no age requirement for the 5k, and children must be 5&U to enter the Wee Nessie.

Race numbers are allocated for all races after the entry closing date, and will be posted on our website. All runners will be advised of this and how to collect their race pack by email.
