The Camino de Santiago, or the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela, is a network of pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain. It was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during the later Middle Ages.
The route of this ride follows that of the French Way of ancient pilgrimage for the last 200km from Ponferrada to the end point of Santiago de Compostela, riding around 50km everyday. The route traverses the hilly landscapes of Galicia, through medieval villages and pass the Mount of Joy, providing riders a relaxing time in the saddle with incredible opportunities to immerse themselves in the culture of the route.
An approximate itinerary is outlined below:
Day 1: Arrive Ponferrada and overnight stay. (Wednesday October 14th)
Day 2: Ride 50km
Day 3: Ride 50km
Day 4: Ride 50km
Day 5: Ride 50km to Santiago de Compostela
Day 6: Onward travel
The total cost of this trip is either £573.00 - the £100 deposit paid upon registration will be used to secure your place.

Start: Ponferrada, Spain.
The nearest airports are Santiago de Compostela or Leon airports. You can take a bus from Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) to Ponferrada via Lugo in around 4h 2m. Renfe Viajeros operates a train from Leon (LEN) to Ponferrada 5 times a day. Tickets cost £9 - £13 and the journey takes 1h 26m.
End: Santiago de Compostela
It is the responsibility of the participant to be ensure they are at the start location of Ponferrada on Wednesday, October 14th to start the ride on Thursday.
Each day, the ride will start in the morning, and will arrive at each destination between late afternoon and evening so that sightseeing and dinner is possible before retiring for the evening. The route is rideable for cyclists of all abilities, and the route will be taken slowly to ensure that the surroundings are appreciated and everybody is able to keep up.
Will the Beyond Camino Mountain Bike be guided?
There will be a local team that will be riding with you and supporting you along the route. You will also be provided with detailed maps and information packs for the route along the way.

Will I have to carry my bags for the Beyond Camino Mountain Bike?
No, there will be baggage transfer for the days of the ride. The only things you will need to carry are things that you require on the walk such as water, food, camera, any clothing you may way, and other optional items (camera, phone etc.)

Yes, there will be lots of opportunities to stop and either buy food from the local villages or eat a lunch that you may have packed for yourself. In each of the towns that you stay in there will be places to buy food.
