Travel

Ample parking and camping are available at the Bosworth Water Campsite. The well established 3 star rated families only campsite is open all year, the site is well grassed and gently sloping and offers a mixture of both electric and non-electric pitches.

Kit List

There are no specific requirements for this race but the vast majority of people use full wetsuits (rather than short sleeve/ sleeveless wetsuits). The trail on the run is not technical so normal running trainers are fine.

Spectators

It is a great event for spectators (especially if you come the night before and enjoy the camping) and there are ample opportunities to see the athletes all the way around. If you are driving on the day please be cautious of the fact that there may already be cyclists out on the road!

Volunteers

On Your Marks are an awesome organiser set up in memory of a budding 14 year old triathlete who died of meningitis - they're always very keen for volunteers and you can reach them at [email protected]

I think the organisers should've said the swim MAY be non wetsuit. I brought mine with me just in case but lots didn't. There wasn't much support from Marshalls on the bike route, one on a tight corner sat in his car the whole time literally paying no attention to the race. Another I told a competitor needed assistance, the Marshall didn't seem to know what to do. To top it all off the run was over a mile short? Couldn't we have added an extra lap?
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

Very late start meant family hanging around longer also messed with pre race nutrition. Transition not very organized with regards to bike racking. Very poor.
  • Did the Olympic in 2018

The note about it being a non wet suit swim was confusing and if you had said it 'may' be a non wet suit swim then all those who didn't bring theirs may have done, I did have mine.

Two minor niggles. Firstly I was wave 6 and this is the first time that quite late in getting going. Secondly website made it quite clear This is a non wetsuit event hence I did not bring the wetsuit. However these were allowed on the morning as temperatures dropped to acceptable levels. The website should have stated that this may have been a possibility. Otherwise great event again

Terrible. Avoid at all costs.I feel this event was in a lovely setting and has the potential to be great for spectators but was really let down by a lack of organisation, some of which was frankly dangerous. I hope this event improves in future. Ill start with the worst points first. Dangerous course o Bike water station on busy junction (not safe to stop)o T1 exit/T2 entrance DANGEROUS on site junction Parking barrier up for some athletes, down for others Campervans and cars trying to enter/exit at the same time Not controlled by marshals o Run course not cordoned off. BBQs and cricket/football matching being played on the courseo Not enough marshals Athlete collapsed at finish Safety officer marshal didnt notice (she was by herself at the finish). Once she was notified didnt get any water for the athlete. Lack of organisationo Marshals not prepped sufficiently to direct athletes o A marshal on a bike led the second swimmer to transition, but not the first. (not ready in time). o One boat and one kayak for entire lake (not enough to cover the entire swim field when it inevitably spread out)o Elastic bands to count laps only

Dont do it. Worst event i have ever been to. Really poorly organised and communication was pathetic. No triathlon /cycling event signs up marshalls letting riders go past turning point without stopping them. Same non descript swim bike run medal to all participants whether you did the aqua bike or the middle distance no age group prizes no announcments run was 8 laps = 11miles they could have easily said 9 laps to take it up to correct distance. You had to run through crowds of people bbq ing playing cricket football. Absolute waste of a 500mile round trip NEVER AGAIN.

Where do I even start?!I only decided to sign up for the sprint aquabike just a few days before the event. I had seen on the website that the swim would be non-wetsuit due to water temperature, only to arrive at the venue to be told that it had been changed to wetsuit optional - a little notice would have been nice, as I had left my wetsuit at home, so this wasn't an option for me. Picking up our race numbers & timing chips etc. was very easy, but I did note that we weren't asked to show our BTF licenses. Once I got in to transition, I found that there was literally no room left to rack my bike and other competitors had taken up a lot of room. The member of event crew that I spoke to (a young lad) paid pretty much no attention to what I had said, so I had to take it upon myself to try and fit my kit in somewhere. We had heard that the standard distance events were going to be later starting and despite the sprint/novice events due to start nearly an hour later, they were still late starting. The race briefing was simple but lacked any information about the aquabike event, so i had to approach the crew afterwards to find out what I needed to do once I had finished the bike course (I had never participated in an aquabike before). The swim was fine, although I do feel that other competitors had the unfair advantage of being able to wear a wetsuit. The run to transition was a little long, but not the worst I've seen. The bike course was fine too and was well signposted. However, when I ran out of transition and turned left to head to the finish line, I was greeted by a crowd of spectators and finished competitors blocking the way. I managed to dodge through them all, but due to even more competitors blocking the entrance to the finish chute, I completely missed this and ended up having to jump over the tape. I mentioned this to the race officials, but was told that there was nothing that they could do about it.. seriously?!When I had crossed the finish line, there were very few bottles of water available and the medals were laid on the table for us to help ourselves to. Another competitor who finished just behind me had collapsed over the finish line and despite being made aware of this, the crew member there seemed very hesitant to go over and help him.We had to wait a while for our results to be printed off and posted on the board (I can't see why they don't have a screen and printer, like a lot of other organisers). When they were finally available, I noticed that others who had competed in the aquabike events had this noted on their results, but mine didn't. I approached the guy who was working on these and told him that I appeared to be listed as taking part in a tri. He took my name and race number and said that they would sort this out, but as of yet this hasn't happened and my finish time has been removed, with the words "run time tbc" added. I've emailed them about this, so hopefully they can sort it out. I believe I came 3rd, but didn't have the time to wait around for presentations, so I have no idea if there were trophies or not. Overall, I felt that it was badly organised which is a shame as the venue is great. I have competed in several of OYME races and have always left feeling this way. Maybe one day they will learn to not use children as marshals/event crew as they clearly don't want to be there. I had hoped that maybe they had sorted themselves out a little, but clearly not. They should be embarrassed.

Plus points.Great setting and nice venue to swim inRegistration quick n easy Carpeted pathway created from lake to grass area which was a good couple of hundred metresBike route well sign posted and Marshall on the dangerous downhill bit. Lots of parking, we was supposed to pay but no method of doing this.Races spaced out through out morning with registration closing at 1115am. So not a mad rush. The young lad marshalling people into transition was knowledgeable and thorough but was on his own so queues formed.Cons No announcements to direct you to race briefing which was 300m away from transition. Marshalls a bit scarce. Some great some looked like they where forced to be there not engaging or looking like they could be bothered. The swim Marshall was great. Transition was cramped with not enough space for bikes people where squeezing themselves in. When I arrived in transition my belongings had been scattered.Mount line was tight with people constantly walking in the way. Cars also coming in and out which was risky.Run route was not cordoned off properly so running into people. It was so  busy that you was running around groups of public playing football and tons of bbq smoke. People getting in your way.No instant results so you could check your times and placing Port loos had no toilet roll at all so people were disgusting !! Wetsuit was banned on email but on day was optional but no update sent.So much potential to be better with some better decisions that could have been made here. Great for beginners but felt for those doing their first race.

Unfortunately a lot to say so I’ll keep it mostly to bullet points.I feel this event was in a lovely setting and has the potential to be great for spectators but was really let down by a lack of organisation, some of which was frankly dangerous. I hope this event improves in future. I’ll start with the worst points first.
    Dangerous course

Bike water station on busy junction (not safe to stop)
T1 exit/T2 entrance – DANGEROUS on site junction

Parking barrier up for some athletes, down for others
Campervans and cars trying to enter/exit at the same time

    Not controlled by marshals

    Run course not cordoned off.

BBQs and cricket/football matching being played on the course

    Not enough marshals

Athlete collapsed at finish – ‘Safety officer’ marshal didn’t notice (she was by herself at the finish).
Once she was notified didn’t get any water for the athlete.

    Lack of organisation

Marshals not prepped sufficiently to direct athletes
A marshal on a bike led the second swimmer to transition, but not the first. (not ready in time).
One boat and one kayak for entire lake (not enough to cover the entire swim field when it inevitably spread out)
Elastic bands to count laps only prepared after the first 5 or so runners had already completed a lap

No timing mat on the run course so no way to confirm laps

Feed stations not ready for runners first lap or cyclist first lap (no gels available)
Personal bottle exchange not prepared (a spectator has to fetch these as no one was available to bring these from transition to the bike water station)
Not all marshals wearing high vis and therefore not identifiable
Not all entrances/exits manned in transition

    dog walker walked through
bikes not secure (anyone could have walked out with any bike unchallenged)

Last minute changes of all 3 courses (swim, bike, run).

Not clearly explained at race briefing.

    Lack of communication

No announcement of race briefing starting by the water (300m from transition)
Wetsuits became optional after initially being banned

I understand nature can’t be controlled but it should have been advised to athletes to bring wetsuits with them in case of water temperature change. Would have disadvantaged some athletes
