Bridge to Bridge North Bank Ride routes

General Course Info

The 60km race will start outside the Golf Club, on Thongcaster Road, travel to Browns Rock Road and go into the river at the Intake. The ride will then travel east, through to the finish going past the State Highway One river bridges, through Waimakariri Park back on to the stop bank to Kaiapoi and finish on Raven Quay.

The 30km event will start at Downs Road and travel east past the State Highway One river bridges, through Waimakariri Park back on to the stop bank to Kaiapoi and finish on Raven Quay.

The 15km event will start at Harrs Road and travel east on the stop bank to State Highway One river bridges, through Waimakariri Park back on to the stop bank to Kaiapoi and finish on Raven Quay. This is ideal for children to get the experience of mountain bike racing. We also recommend for young children to have a parent as a support rider.

The 60km ride is a mix of shingle, stop bank and single track except for the Thongcaster Road portion. Ecan gates for the ride will be open and you won’t have to get off your bike to get over the gates, these are easily managed to keep other traffic out of the area. The 30km ride will be on a mix shingle, stop bank and single track all the way, while the 15km is stop bank and single track riding.

Directional marking will be by Pink paint on the roads and red directional arrows where required. This will be a fast mountain bike ride, great for a mid-year ride especially as it is downhill all the way.

Start time for the 30 and 60km races is 10:00am and the 15km we'll announce closer to the time, we're looking at 9:45am although we'll confirm this closer to the date. We want the 15km competitors finished before the 30km riders get to the finish.

The Start

60km Ride:

Starting at the Waimakariri Golf Club, riders will outside the golf club on Thongcaster Road, travel to Browns Rock Road where they will turn right towards the river to the Intake, then turn east and ride the shingle roads by the river, through to the finish, going past the State Highway One river bridges, through Waimakariri Park back on to the stop bank to Kaiapoi and finish on Raven Quay in Kaiapoi.

Throughout the ride, you will be tested by the shingle roads, all gates will be open for riders to have a fast ride to the finish. This ride is all downhill and a great mid-winter race. The surfaces of the roads change from week to week and can be a fast and exciting ride.

Minimum age is 13 years of age on race day for the 60km rides

30km Ride:

The 30km ride will start at the river off Downs Road and like the 60km Ride, you follow the road through to the finish, going past the State Highway One river bridges, through Waimakariri Park back on to the stop bank to Kaiapoi and finish on Raven Quay in Kaiapoi.

Throughout the ride, you will be tested by the shingle roads, all gates will be open for riders to have a fast ride to the finish. This ride is all downhill and a great mid-winter race and great for families looking to do a winter event together.

The 30km is a great ride for a new rider looking for a first event, minimum age is 13 years of age on race day.

15km Ride:

The 15km ride will start at 9:45am on the stop bank off Harrs Road and like the 60km and 30km Rides, you will ride the stop bank and single track to State Highway One river bridges, then through Waimakariri Park back on to the stop bank to Kaiapoi and finish on Raven Quay in Kaiapoi.

Please note the start time of 9:45am, we want all 15km riders finished before the 30km riders come in as we don't want the younger riders getting mixed up in the sprint finish or single track leading towards the finish line. (We may bring this forward 15 minutes closer to the date, if we feel this could happen based on the number of entries)

This is a great ride for beginners and young riders and will give them the taste of mountain bike racing. Young riders can be supported by a parent as a support rider. Parents have to register as a support rider if they wish to do this. This ride is all downhill and a great mid-winter race and great for families looking to do a winter event together.

The 15km is a great ride for young and new riders looking for a first event, minimum age is 7-years of age on race day.

The Finish

Bridge to Bridge North finishes on Raven Quay in Kaiapoi just before the bridge.

The last 15km will be on the Stop Bank and Mountain Bike track through the trees, under the bridges and follow the single track mountain bike track for approximately 1km, then back on to the Stop Bank for 2km to Kaiapoi before opening up to the road for a sprint finish on Raven Quay.
