Route information
All routes will be fully way-marked and will follow the paths, tracks, beaches and coastline of the Causeway Coast Way – probably one of the most spectacular coastlines in the whole world. The entire route passes through magnificent coastline scenery with fine views of wide bays, sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and offshore rocks, all of which characterise the Causeway Coast, making its beauty and uniqueness renowned. All routes will run through the world famous Giant's Causeway, with the ultra and marathon events passing close to the actual Giant's Causeway stones.
Hydration/Feed Stations:
There will be hydration/feed stations at various locations along the route:
  • Ultra marathon checkpoints 12.7k, 22.6k, 34.8k, 36.5k, 38k, 43k, 49k, 50.5k, 52.3k, 59k.
  • Half marathon checkpoints 6k, 7.21k, 9k, 15.7k
There is usually cake, water (in cups), sweets, and a nut-based savoury item at each feed station.

Parking
The main car park at Portballintrae is strictly off limits to competitors as it is intended for day visitors and spectators. Parking will be available in designated areas on the road leading to the event centre and the main road leading into Portballintrae. Parking here will result in a long walk so be prepared.
Please do not obstruct any residents access in an out of their property or private parking areas, and to park legally and well to allow for traffic to remain flowing.

The Ultra, 1/2 marathon and 10km require a bus journey to the start line provided as part of your entry.

Registration
All competitors must report to Portballintrae Village HallExternalLink the morning of the race for registration, kit check, and race briefing. The safety briefings for all competitors will cover safety, the latest weather forecast, logistical considerations and other important information.
From registration, all competitors (except for marathon) will be transported by bus to their relative start lines.
Cut-off Times
There will be cut-off times for runners to complete each distance.
  • Ultra cut-off is 10 hours
  • Marathon cut-off is 8 hours
  • Half marathon cut-off is 5 hours
  • 10k cut-off is 4 hours
Aid Stations
There will be aid stations evenly spread across all the courses. The locations of the aid stations are marked on the course routes:
Safety and Medical Support
There will be a dedicated Check Point Crew located along the course at strategic point who will monitor and record both your progress and your physical and mental state. If you require medical attention one of the private paramedics to your location if appropriate. The team will be there if you need them.
Age Requirements
All participants for all distances must be aged 18 or over to take part.
Crowds
Spectator Info
Family and friends are more than welcome to come along to this event to show support. Supporters also add an atmosphere and additional energy to the experience for all the other participants and the crew. The best place for your supporters is at the run into the finish in Portballintrae, as there will be a festival-type atmosphere in the village that day.
Please note: it's asked that spectators follow the recommendations of the organisers in order to prevent bottle necks and congestion.

What do I need to bring to the Causeway Coast Marathon?
To run the Causeway Coast Marathon you need to bring trail running shoes, hydration pack or water bottle, energy snacks, windproof top and a hat/buff. Runners will also want to plan for inclement weather and bring warm clothing and spare shoes for after the race in case of adverse weather.
