The Winter BallBuster was one of the first events ever launched by Human Race in December of 1990. The notoriously tough event concept is now in its 27th year and remains one of the toughest endurance challenges in the UK; a must-do race for every competitive multi-sport athlete in the country, it will test your fitness and stamina to the max!

Set in the picturesque setting of the Box Hill National Trust site, the course takes you on five lap course of Box Hill and the undulating hills of the North Downs.

Everyone who finishes the event is awarded with a free event hoodie that you can wear with pride after the event, your badge of honour to show that you took on the infamous BallBuster and won.

For anyone who is bored of doing laps around Dorney Lake, this event offers the rare combination of Duathlon with an interesting course. It has a reputation as a serious challenge, but it is definitely one thats worth taking on. The race includes over 1000m of incline, a running component almost as long as the bike, as well as wet and windy autumnal conditions, but it is very much worth doing for the motivation to keep you training into the autumn. It also promises the famous Ballbuster hoodie (which actually is worth 3 - 4 gruelling hours in the rain). Whilst the course is difficult, it is very well laid out, quiet, and the scenery is beautiful (if often masked by fog). The marshals are organised and friendly, and everything has run smoothly both times I have raced here (2017, 2016). You will need to arrive early as the car park fills up quickly, and it is worth trying the course out beforehand as some of the left turns are very tight. All in all, I think this is one of the best duathlons the UK has to offer, and should be on any keen multi-sport athletes event wishlist.
