The Chester 50 was an excellent event. The volunteers at the check points to the support throughout the lead up and on the day was superb. All my questions were answered by the organisers and fellow runners swiftly. The perks of the pictures, brew at the end with more food was brilliant. The comradery is top notch and welcoming as you would expect from any sport. The course is well marked out and this year we had trackers for live updates for your friends/family to follow which worked well. The course I would say is a fast course and a good one for those who are novice or come from a road running background. If you are a fell runner or enjoy hills, trails or mountains look elsewhere (as the only real climbs are Helsby hill and Frodsham) but the views are beautiful personally and I really enjoyed it all. I think the last 6-7 miles along the canal back to Waverton was good and for other runners it signaled the last push. At Waverton village hall where the start/finish point is there is not a massive amount of parking so it is advised to car share or be prepared to park within the village. The only thing I could say is we didnt set off until gone 0600, which is small in detail but perhaps could have been avoided if the marshals at Waverton got out when they were supposed to but this is minor in detail and should not detract from those wanting to take part in the future. For such a young event (third year I believe) it is superbly supported and run. For those wanting a good challenge which is achievable this is a brilliant one to go for.

A very well marked course, a good mix of terrain taking on flat canal start, roads, villages, hard trail, soft fields, a couple of climbs, fantastically stocked CPs with friendly helpful crew and to top it off a great medal and free burger/ hot dog, tea or coffee at the finish. Its my 3rd year and find it a course that just keeps on giving. Great for a first time 50 or seasoned ultra runner.
