    Course Details

    Marathon and Half Marathon

The course will be closed to traffic for participants who are averaging faster than  13:45 minutes per mile for the marathon, and 16 minutes per mile for the Half Marathon. Slower participants may continue after traffic is allowed onto the race course, but they do so at their own risk and must follow pedestrian statutes. Race volunteers, the finish line, and post-race festivities will remain active long enough to accommodate runners taking up to 7 hours to complete the Marathon.

The time limit for traffic control on the course is a 3:30 finish time for the half marathon and a 6:00 finish time for the full marathon. If you are still on the course after the time limit, you will need to exercise caution as it pertains to automobiles, etc. We will, however, keep the finish line clock running for 7 hours from the start of the marathon.

The race starts near State Farm Center, runs through campus, loops through Urbana, back through campus, out into Champaign (for Marathon entrants), and finishes on the 50-yard line of Memorial Stadium.

    10K

The course starts near State Farm Center, runs north on First Street and through downtown Champaign, past West Side Park and the Champaign Country Club, and finishes on the 50-yard line of Memorial Stadium. After the wave starts for the marathon, half marathon, and marathon relay, we will line up all 10K entrants according to pace, with the fastest runners at the front, the walkers at the back, and everyone else in between.  At approximately 7:40 AM, the 10K race will begin.

    5K

The race starts on Oak Street, south of St. Mary’s Road, runs through campus, and finishes on the 50-yard line of Memorial Stadium. The Illinois National Bank 4th Mile 5K StreetFest, hosted by the Illini Radio Group, will take place from 6:30 pm to 10 pm outside Memorial Stadium between First Street & Fourth Street, in the same footprint where the 27th Mile Celebrate Victory Bash will take place on Saturday!

    1K

The route is roughly 1K in length (slightly longer than half a mile). Each heat will start separately at the south end of the football field, make several loops north and south on the field, and then finish at the 50-yard-line.The Youth Run will be run entirely inside Memorial Stadium. The route is roughly 1K in length (slightly longer than half a mile). Each heat will start separately at the south end of the football field, make several loops north and south on the field, and then finish at the 50-yard-line.

    Parking

There is plenty of free parking on race weekend. The northwest, southwest, and northeast parking lots of the State Farm Center are available on race weekend. The E14 lot is also available all weekend, as well as the Research Park south of Oak Street. There is some paid parking closer to the expo site.

    Handicap Parking

The handicap parking is in the north-most row of the NW lot of the State Farm Center parking lot. You can cross Kirby Avenue at the cross walk. Enter Memorial Stadium at Gate 32. The handicap seating is in the south horseshoe.

    Volunteers

The 2019 Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon will require nearly 3,000 volunteer team members for a safe, fun event for the runners. In addition to some fun in the C-U community, each team member receives a Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon t-shirt and drawstring backpack!

The General Volunteer Team consists of all non-Course Intersection jobs, including Expo and Race Day positions. Starting Tuesday of race week, we have a multitude of jobs and shift times available. Note that many volunteer teams are not listed, as they are fulfilled by organizations. Email: [email protected] if yo are interested in volunteering. Training required for some positions (not all).

    FAQs

Hydration Stations/Gu & Snack Stations, Sponsored by OSF HealthCare

There are 16 hydration stations on the course. Hydration stations will be stocked with water (all stations), Lemon-Lime Gatorade (most stations), and GU (at mile 6.7, which is shortly after marathon relay exchange zone A; mile 13; mile 17; and mile 21). The mile 6.7 GU stop will have Vanilla Bean, Strawberry-Banana, and Chocolate Outrage GU; the 13.1-mile, 17-mile, 21-mile GU stops will have Strawberry-Banana, Salted Caramel, and Chocolate Outrage GU. All flavors of GU have caffeine except strawberry banana.

    Fruits on the course

There is also an official oranges stop (thank you, Meijer, for the oranges) at approximately mile 6, hosted by The Atkins Group. There is also an official oranges and banana stop at mile 21.5 (thank you, County Market and Meijer).

    Toilets

Relax. There will be plenty of portable toilets at the start and even more along the entire course.

    How is gear check handled?

If you are in the marathon or half marathon, your commemorative Illinois Marathon drawstring backpack is your drop bag (no luggage or paper bags). Put inside your backpack any clothing that you want after the race. Use a safety pin to attach the gear bag check from the bottom of your race number to your bag and place it in the appropriately marked Ryder truck on the west side of the State Farm Center, north of the starting line. Gear check opens at 5:30 a.m. After your race, you can pick up your drop bag in the Great West Hall at Memorial Stadium, the same area where the postrace food is located. Bag drop/retrieval is not available for marathon relay, 10K, 5K, or youth run participants due to the short length of these events.

Can I walk in the races?

We do allow walkers in all of the events except the full marathon.

What is your position on headphones?

Headphones, earbuds, and so on are discouraged, for your safety and others around you. Runners should be alert to their surroundings and able to hear course volunteers and other runners.

Are strollers or pets allowed on the course?

We can allow strollers in the 5K Run/Walk only, and as long as you are walking and start in the last corral. Strollers will start right ahead of those walking without strollers. If you are pushing a child in a stroller, you must WALK and not RUN. We do not allow pets in any of our events.

Where are the port-a-potties located on the course?

We take pride in our “excessive” use of Port-a-Potties! As such, we have located these temporary bathrooms at approximately every mile along the full and half marathon routes. The start of the race will have many port-a-potties.
