50% FESTIVAL + 50% MUD RUN = 100% AWESOME!

Rugged Maniac is like recess for grown-ups, except our playground has a 3-story water slide, trampolines, and a fire jump, and theres a huge festival right in the middle of everything with a DJ and plenty of beer! Sounds amazing, right?! Heres how it works:

The festival: The 5,000-person party starts at 8:30 a.m. with a DJ on the main stage, booths giving away free stuff, all kinds of interactive games (mechanical bulls, dance-offs, stein-hoisting, pie-eating), and tasty food and beer to keep you fuelled all day. The best part? The festival and games are completely FREE, no ticket required, so even your least adventurous friends can join the party!

The playground: But the real fun happens out on the playground our 3-mile course packed with 20+ epic obstacles designed to both challenge and thrill Maniacs of all fitness levels, from couch potatoes to marathoners. The course opens at 9 a.m. but youll select a specific time to run when you buy your tickets. If youre a late sleeper, that means you can wake up at noon, run at 1:45 p.m., and then party the rest of the day! Or if youre the competitive type, join the 9 a.m. Elite Heat to race other speedsters for a chance to be crowned the winner!

Raceday Logistics

ID & Waiver:

If you’re 18 and over*, you need to bring a photo ID to verify your age, but you DO NOT need to bring a copy of your signed waiver. You’ll sign the waiver at the Check-In Tent before you run. If you’re under 18*, you need to bring a copy of the waiver located on the event page signed by your parent or legal guardian. If you forget it, your parent can still sign a waiver for you at the race.

Race Bib:

Each racer gets a race bib which must be worn on the front of his/her body (shirt or shorts). The bib serves three purposes: (1) It lets our security know that you’re a paid runner, (2) you can enter your bib number into the designated website after the race to find any pictures and download for FREE, and (3) items at the bag check are organized by bib number, so you must have it in order to retrieve your bags. We do not keep records of who gets which bib, so be sure to have your number in order to retrieve your bags at the bag check and find your photos.

Kit List
Unless you have trail running or OCR-specific shoes, whatever shoes you wear will likely be ruined by the mud and water. So wear old sneakers you can toss in our donation pile after you run. Protect your elbows and knees from getting scratched up during the crawls with compression sleeves and/ or tights, and wear quick-drying and snug athletic shorts and tops so you don’t get weighed down with water after the first mud pit!

Bring a towel, a change of clothes (including shoes or flip flops), sunscreen, water, a plastic bag to put your muddy clothes in, and a folding chair or blanket to sit on. If you want to skip the rinse-off lines, bring a couple of gallons of water to leave in your car – they’ll heat up throughout the day giving you a nice warm rinse while everyone else shivers from the well water! Coolers aren’t allowed into the event.

Many of our obstacles use tarps to hold water, and some of our obstacles are inflatable. Cleats will puncture holes in both and force the obstacle to be completely shut down for the remainder of the event, ruining the experience for everyone. If you want the best traction, pick up some trail running shoes. Literally every shoe company makes them, they’re not expensive, and they’re a heck of a lot more comfortable than cleats!

FAQs

Water Stations

There will be three water stations for participants, two on the course and one at the finish line. We’ll also have oranges and bananas at the finish to help you replenish some energy before hitting the festival! Bottled water will be available for sale for spectators, but you can also bring your own water. However, no outside alcoholic beverages or coolers are allowed into the venue.

Skipping Obstacles

Assess each obstacle as you approach to determine whether your fitness level will allow you to safely complete it. Circumvent any obstacle that you feel is too difficult, but remember that doing so will disqualify you from winning the race if you’re in the 9 a.m. Elite Heat.

Can I change my start time?

You can change your start time (to one that isn’t sold out) in our online system through 4/25 or at the “Tickets” table on race morning for $10. The only start times still available are 11:30 am, 11:45 am,12:30 pm, 12:45 pm, 1:00 pm, 1:45 pm, and 2:00 pm.

What if the weather's bad?

If there is severe weather that prevents the event from being held at all on Saturday, it will be moved to Sunday. If severe weather persists on Sunday, it will be moved to a later weekend date.

When do I get my t-shirt?

You'll be given whatever size shirt you requested when you registered. Women's shirts S-L are slim-fit v-necks and sizes run small. Men's shirts are unisex style and are true to size.
