Route information
Swim
A 1 mile open water swim in the River Dee. This will consist of a ~200m run from the start line (outside the Thistle Inn) to the water. Once in the water, swimmers are required to swim (clockwise) out to a buoy (0.25 miles out from the shore), back to the shore, where they are required to leave the water, run round a marker (situated ~5m from the water’s edge) and then repeat the swim. Once you return to shore for the second time you will have to make your way back to the start, where you will hand over your timing chip to the next team member (teams), or transition and collect your bike (individuals). The time for the swim will be recorded once the bike leaves the staging area.
Due to the nature of the swim (open water), and the time of year, wet suits are mandatory (short wetsuits are acceptable).
Due to the conditions underfoot, it is advisable (although not mandatory) to wear footwear between the start line and the water’s edge. Competitors who choose not to wear footwear or to wear loose fitting footwear to facilitate ease of removal do so at their own risk.

Cycle

The cycle is a 25 mile road race (anticlockwise) around Loch Ken, starting and finishing outside the Thistle Inn. This is NOT a closed road event, and cyclists will be sharing the road with other vehicles. No preferential treatment will be given to competitors and the Highway Code must be adhered to at all times.
Cycle helmets are mandatory.

Run

The 7mile 250 yard run starts and finishes outside the Thistle Inn. The course is made up of B (minor) class roads, which like the cycling route, are not closed to traffic. The terrain is hilly, and is a challenging run course. There will be 4 water stations around the route.
