What you need to know

The Beyond Dartmoor sportive is about more than the usual suspects and of course our route will still pass them, Burrator dam, Haytor rocks ,etc. (Route specific).

But we have tried to find a route that's about visiting places on Dartmoor you wouldn't normally see we have open spaces, great riding lanes, superb climbs and stunning views, not only the special place that is Dartmoor but beautiful rivers, stunning woodland and quaint villages and all seen from the saddle.

Both routes will Start and Finish at the home of the Okehampton show, Stoneypark, which is on the western edge of Okehampton.

Dartmoor is another place that should be on your Sportive to do list, it's an undulating ride but flat is boring right?! The organisers have tried to include many of the must do's around Dartmoor but with 2 feeds along the route, you will have plenty of energy to complete the ride, take your time, enjoy it.

Dartmoor is stunning and is a challenge in itself so our event has no long route, mainly down to the time of the year and the number of daylight hours, we want everyone to finish, and just enjoy the ride.

The longer ride will take you marginally over 125km, so not only can you ride Dartmoor but you also get to hit a riding milestone.

The ride itself is a Beautiful ride around and through Dartmoor national park, with its stunning scenery and wide open spaces, the route will follow portions of the 2016 Tour of Britain which will include the ride up and past Haytor rocks, but we visit many stunning places around Dartmoor.

Course Details

Once you set off from the event centre the route will be marked with the use of arrow signs and marker ribbons. Arrows signs will be approx. every 500 metres of the route.so quite simply you follow these signs.

The orange signs with white arrows marked on them will direct cyclists in the direction they should take to complete your chosen route.

It is important you take extra care when you see these signs to ensure you follow your chosen course.

There are additional direction triangles used along the route Additional course directional arrows

Course split points will be used to highlight where the route splits for the shorter distances. An orange and white ‘course split ahead’ sign will warn cyclists that the route will split.

Orange extreme caution signs will be used where appropriate to mark potential hazards such as steep downhill stretches, road crossings. and. When you see these signs, you should reduce your speed and cycle with extra caution.

Although the route is clearly marked, you should study your map long before starting to familiarise yourself with your route. You should refer to your map frequently during your ride to confirm your location. If you accidentally stray from the route you should backtrack to the last point where you knew you were on
the route.

On occasions, the public will tamper with signs, it is, therefore, each competitor’s own responsibility to study the route and know roughly where you should be riding please cycle appropriately on the public paths, tracks, roads etc, until you can locate another arrow (Or look at the map you are given at registration).

Riders are welcome to change to shorter routes, as they are completing the event, simply follow the signs for one of the shorter routes at the course split points and inform us of your route change at the finish.

Prudential RideLondon: an annual festival of cycling - A true legacy of the 2012 Games

Developed by the Mayor of London and his agencies in 2013, Prudential RideLondon is a world-class festival of cycling. The fifth edition will take place over the weekend of 28-29 July 2018.

There is no other closed-road event like it that combines the fun and accessible element of a free family ride in central London with the excitement of watching the worlds best professional cyclists race in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic and Prudential RideLondon Classique.

Taking a cue from the London Marathon, amateur cyclists also participate in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 a 100-mile challenge on the same closed roads as the professionals, with the added incentive of raising money for good causes. For the first time in 2016, the event also featured the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 a 46-mile sportive created specifically for newer and also younger cyclists.

Ride with former Welsh Rugby Union star Shane Williams MBE at this last club, Amman Utd RFC. It just so happens to be an ideal starting location to explore the surrounding countryside of Carmarthenshire by bike. And what a countryside it is; the roads, hills and vistas are among some of the best cycling routes in the UK.

You will go over the impressive Black Mountain, through the Brecon Beacons National park, ride through the centre of the historic Welsh market towns of Llandovery and Brecon as well as the numerous picturesque valley villages and hamlets and mountain passes along the way. All with a mixture of decent climbs, technical downhills and nice long flat stretches. The two course are challenging but also achievable for all and with the timing of the event being mid October its ideal for one last ride of the season, or a social gathering after a hard season of competing or even a personal challenge to build up to throughout the year. There's something for everyone.
