Course Overview

Starting and finishing in Torquay the event takes in 90km of road closures with the highest standard of event organization provided by SME360 and supported by police (including motorbikes), extensive traffic management, and medical support (including 3 ambulances), mechanical support & entertainment.

Spectacular scenery along the course with the opportunity to stop in the townships of Moriac, Deans Marsh and along the Great Ocean Road at Lorne, Aireys Inlet & Anglesea.

Optional timed climb of the 12km Benwerrin Climb in the Otways for the 145km participants

Great location for a weekend away – Torquay and surrounding areas have many great activities and is famous in the surf industry.

204km Amy’s Ride

Starting and finishing in Torquay, the epic 204km Amy’s Ride (supported by the Amy Gillett Foundation) is for the more experienced rider. However if you are in this category, this is one ride that you will want to over and over every year. It has 90km of road closures and the rest is traffic controlled so it is very safe, but this ride takes you along the largest section of the Great Ocean Road of all distances. You will start off winding your way up to Moriac, then all the way to Forest and down to Skenes Creek. From Skenes Creek it’s just stunning scenery the whole way back to Torquay along over 80km of the Great Ocean Road. It has to be a must on every cyclists bucket list.

145km RACV Classic Ride

Starting and finishing in Torquay, the 145km ride is the original ride that has now been running for over 12 years. There are three cycling events given permission to use the Great Ocean Road each year, and of these three, this is the only event that is a recreational ride and not a race. This means that you get to do it at your own pace and soak in the breathtaking scenery along the stunning coastline of the Great Ocean Road. This ride is designed for the more experienced rider as it has some challenging hill climbs and some quick descents, but if you’re up for the challenge you will not be disappointed with this course.

60km Degani Social Ride

Starting and finishing in Torquay, the Degani 60km ride goes a little deeper into Torquay’s surrounding country side, winding it’s way up to Moriac and back to Torquay through some stunning farming land and green rolling hills. This ride is designed for the intermediate rider or one that the whole family can do together.

FAQs

Why fundraise for the Amy Gillett Foundation?

The Amy Gillett Foundation is the charity-of-choice for the Great Ocean Otway Classic with one purpose – reducing the incidence of death and injury of cyclists in Australia.

The Foundation was born out of tragedy, the death of Amy Gillett, who was hit and killed by a motorist whilst cycling with her national teammates in Germany. Since the Foundation’s inception it has been a catalyst for change, focused on what should be rather than what was.

Our mission: safe cycling in Australia

Our vision: zero cyclist fatalities

SAFETY TIPS – Whenever you’re out riding your bike, remember to maximise your visibility at all times:

ADD a front WHITE light

ADD a rear RED light

SET both to FLASH mode (and be more visible)

WEAR light colours, reflective or fluorescent clothing

ADD reflective bands to your legs (your bio-motion reflects light to drivers behind)

WEAR your helmet

Be predictable – signal early & often

What in it for me??

In addition to feeling good about supporting Safer Cycling, we’ve arranged for some amazing rewards for you:

Fundraise $50 and an exclusive ‘a metre matters’ pass cycling safely sticker will be posted to you

Fundraise $100 and an Amy Gillett Foundation cap is all yours

Fundraise $200 and an Amy Gillett Foundation jersey is yours

Fundraise $250 and an Amy Gillett Foundation bib knicks and jersey are yours.
