What you need to know

The Impact Marathon Series has landed in Guatemala and is all set for an extraordinary experience. Youll be treated to the usual blend of stunning locations, hugely impactful volunteering and the hardest race of your life. With a volcanic backdrop, some massive social issues to support and meeting 85 brand new friends for life this will be an unmissable race for any runner.

The Impact Marathon experience is a dish best served small... we look for each person to have a personal experience, where 85 people become one community. Its important to us to have enough people to make an impact but not so many to lose the close, intimate experience.

Itinerary:
This is not just a race, it's a week-long community engagement and world-changing adventure. This is your chance to link in with the exciting Guatemalan culture and create a platform for change. We are here to embrace the nation, to learn its history and to help develop the discussions and the opportunities to build a strong future for the country.

Day 1 - 5th March '18
After your flight arrives in to Guatemala City during the day, youll be whisked to our Athletes' Village, a short drive from the UNESCO World Heritage town of Antigua. Here youll get to know your fellow travellers whilst enjoying an evening of amazing Guatemalan food and starting to learn more of what you'll be experiencing this week. We like to keep much of the weeks activities a surprise, so well be revealing lots more over a glass of Gallo beer this evening.

Day 2 - 6th March '18
Wake up to watch the breathtaking sunrise over Agua, Fuego and Acatanango and get into the swing of life at your project. The morning yoga session is one of the many highlights of the trip, simply unmissable. For those wanting to get a feel for the terrain, you can also head out on one of our training runs. Then the project work begins, depending on your selected UN Global Goal you'll be working with organisations in the region to bring about change in their communities.

Day 3 - 7th March '18
A morning spent with the projects and people youll be supporting, really getting to know them and seeing the difference you have made first hand. We have a surprise ready for you in the afternoon

Day 4 - 8th March '18
We rise with the sun to finish our project work as one big happy family. You'll now be feeling far more in rhythm with Guatemalan life and understanding the amazing as well as challenging sides to life in the country. Seeing your project through to completion will be an outstanding moment and is what makes the Impact Marathon experience completely unique. We finish the day celebrating with a drink or two at our Sunset Bar.

Day 5 - 9th March '18
You have a big day tomorrow so today it's time to unwind. We will have some mini-lectures and workshops around the themes of the week and your time in Guatemala. We'll also create our pop-up cinema in the evening to show our favourite trail running film of the year! We want you pumped and excited for the big day tomorrow. Head into Antigua to buy some lunch, relax with your fellow competitors, and tour this absolutely beautiful colonial town. In the evening will be the famous pasta party in preparation for race day.

Day 6 - 10th March '18
The moment has come. Start line, time to run together, as a community in one of the worlds most outstanding locations. The magic of race day: Get ready for a remarkable finish line moment as you take the final steps of the hardest race of your life. And at that finish line, well have a huge welcome home for you. Party into the night, you deserve it...

Day 7 - 11th March '18
The race is over and you'll have the usual aches and pains to remind you. To take your mind off it we have organised some incredible experiences that show you the very best that Guatemala has to offer. Alternatively, and reluctantly, we will let you return home and transfers to the airport are included!

Overview

Are you ready for an explosive race?

After five days working and living in our stunning Athletes’ Village looking out over the volcanoes of Guatemala – it’s time to run on them. That’s right, we are plotting a tough, beautiful trail running route that will test you and inspire you in equal measure and will take you on a volcanic journey of exploration. It’s not our style to reveal too much about what to expect on the day – that’d spoil the fun. But be assured, we don’t make ‘average’ races… As always, this is an Impact Marathon, so expect the unexpected!

The Athletes’ Village

The Athletes’ Village will be your home for the week and we promise you, it’s an absolute beauty. Nestled up in the hills surrounding Antigua you will be treated to views of not one but THREE beautiful volcanoes… including one you may be lucky enough to see spurting out lava in the evenings. You’ll rise each morning to yoga within the on-site avocado farm (yes, an avocado farm!) and come the evening, our campfire will serve as a melting pot of stories and connections to bring the 85 runners together as one.

See, Feel & Understand Your Impact

The Impact Marathon dream is to elevate running to be a major contributor to achieving the UN GLOBAL GOALS!

1. Each runner selects the Global Goal they are most passionate about

2. Each runner goes out and makes magic happen by fundraising for this Goal

3. We select the BEST, most awesome and brilliant organisations in Guatemala tackling this goal

4. Each runner visits and works at the EXACT projects they fundraised for

Specific charities will be announced in due course following rigorous due diligence from third party development agencies.

What’s Included

After you register with us, we will follow up with you to get some more info ahead of your big trip

Travel

We’ve got four great packages for you to choose from depending on the level of accommodation you prefer. Each option include transfers to and fromLa Aurora International Airport, all accommodation and food, transport to your projects and race day logistics. All you’ll need to budget for is flights, travel insurance, optional trips and drinks money.

Option 1: Bring Your Own Kit £498

Bring Your Own Kit (BYOK) is our entry package: You’ll have a great pitch spot to put up your own tent and access to wash/toilet facilities. You’ll likely be dotted about in the avocado farm that is part of this awesome Athletes’ Village – We all eat together, we all work together through the day and become one amazing team ready to change the world.

Option 2: Base Camp £648

Without doubt our most popular option, these deluxe camping options are located next to our Summit Camp dorm with views all the way down the valley to the small town of Antigua – truly breath-taking.  You’ll be getting your zeds in a safari-style tent with a double bed mattress, pillows, and blankets. The tent is shared so you might want to sign up with a mate!

It’ll be a very comfortable and fun place to spend the week. Bang in the middle of our village you’ll be set to enjoy this beautiful spot. The weather is warm at this time of year so we will have bucket showers aplenty and sitting toilets await you.

Option 3: Summit Camp £798 **SOLD OUT**

We have an 8 person (mixed sex) dormitory here – it’s like that awesome school trip you never forgot! A buzzing place that’ll be overflowing with positive energy! It’ll be warm, comfortable and not like camping at all. It’s a simple life – but as you walk out the door, you will find a nice sauna just to your right and a stunning view right in front of you. There’ll be a combination of running showers and bucket showers – at this time of year, you will be plenty warm enough.

Option 4: Quetzal Camp £1098

This is one for friends or couples to buy together as accommodation is shared double beds (get cosy!). The cabins here are an amazing experience but they are based on a double bed experience. Some of the cabins have two double beds, so you’ll be sharing some of the living space with another couple of runners. It’s quirky accommodation! All the lodges have bathrooms with showers that make this a truly breath-taking, magical and unique experiences.

(Some lodges have multiple double beds. If you are signing up as a couple we will try to prioritise you into the lodges with one double bed…we’re nice like that!)
