Half Marathon
The Inverness Half Marathon starts on Bught Road and takes runners along Bishops Road, Ness Walk, and Ardross Street following the river before crossing Ness Bridge in the centre of town. The route then continues south past Ness Bank and Island Bank Road/Dores Road (B862), turns left onto Torbreck road, a quiet and rural road, before heading back into the residential areas of Lochardil and Drummond.
Runners turn right at the Holm roundabout and go back towards the centre of Inverness, across Ness Bridge and along the river to the finish line at Queens Park Stadium, where a warm welcome awaits.
5k
The 5K route starts on the riverside at Bught Park and follows the picturesque River Ness before crossing Ness Bridge in the centre of Inverness and turning right into Castle Road beneath Inverness Castle. The route continues south along Ness Bank and crosses the river again via the scenic Ness Islands to finish on the running track at Queens Park Stadium (Inverness Sports Centre).

Limited parking will be available at Inverness Sports Centre and Highland Council car parks (charges apply) so it is recommended that you:
  • Park away from the event site and walk

Race Packs
Half marathon runners are not required to attend pre-race registration as race packs (including race number with timing chip and baggage label) will be sent in advance.
5k runners should attend registration on Sunday 12th March between 09:30-12:00 to collect their race number.
Age Requirements
You must be 17 or over at the time of the race to enter the half marathon.
All ages are welcome for the 5k.
Cut-Off Times
In order to minimise disruption to the local community and resident there is a race cut-off time of 3hr 30min at 16:00.
Aid Stations
There are 4 water stations on the half marathon course located at 3, 6, 9 and 11.5 miles. Water will also be available at the finish line. In an effort to reduce this event's carbon footprint, there will be only be paper cups - no plastic water bottles will be given out.
For the 5k, there will only be water available at the finish line.
Facilities
There are toilets at the start and finish line, as well as miles 3 and 9 on the half marathon course.
Limited changing and shower facilities are available at the Sports Centre (finish line).
Massage will also be available at the end of the marathon in return for a donation to one of the official event charities.

Spectator Info
The final few miles through Inverness offer the best vantage points for spectators, and everyone is welcome to come to Inverness Leisure Centre to welcome home all runners and enjoy the atmosphere.

How old must I be to compete at the Inverness Half Marathon & 5k?
Participants must be 17 and over on race day to enter the Half Marathon, while the 5k is open to all ages. Any children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

For safety reasons, buggies and pushchairs are not permitted in the Half Marathon. However they are allowed in the 5k.

Do I need to attend a registration for the Inverness Half Marathon & 5k?
There is no pre-race registration for the Inverness ½ Marathon as all runners will be sent their race pack in advance. All 5K runners must collect their race number during pre-race registration between 09.30-12.00 on Sunday 12 March 2023 at Inverness Sports Centre, Bught Lane, Inverness IV3 5SS.

Can I enter the Inverness Half Marathon & 5k on the day?
Unfortunately, there are absolutely no race day entries for the Inverness ½ Marathon due to the practicalities of planning for a fixed number of participants. There are limited race day entries for the 5K ONLY, subject to race capacity.
