Race through a World Heritage site among Mayan history and landmarks.

Campeche is one of Mexicos best-kept secrets, with its colonial atmosphere, narrow streets, and pastel houses. The city is surrounded by walls that were built during the late 1600s to early 1700s in order to protect the city from Caribbean pirate attacks. The construction of the city walls took approximately 18 years to complete and much of the 8-meter high walls still exist today. Campeche was also named to the World Heritage List in 1999 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which recognizes locations that preserve cultural and natural heritage around the world and are of outstanding value to humanity.

Many tourists are drawn to the breathtaking archaeological sites scattered throughout the state as well as the citys beautiful historical center. Museums, handicraft shops, night clubs, and restaurants offer a wide range of opportunities beyond swim, bike, and run.

The 1.2 mile (1.9km) single-loop swim takes place in the protected water of the Gulf of Mexico. The rolling start swim start will take place at the Campeche Country Club Marina.

After the completion of the swim, athletes will head to T1 located at the Campeche Country Club Soccer Field. Athletes will exit T1 and head towards the Merida Highway to start the bike course. The two-loop, 56-mile (90 km) bike course will take athletes up and back along the Merida Highway before the final turn heading back to T2 at Downtown Campeche Convention Center XXI. While there are a few hills in the first section, the bike course is primarily a flat and fast course.

The two-loop flat and fast 13.1-mile (21 km) run course winds along the Campeche Bay. Athletes will be treated to a very spectator friendly run course before finishing at the Campeche Convention Center XXI.

The 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 Campeche offers 30 qualifying slots to the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in South Africa.
