Chongqing is lauded as the most beautiful inland river valley in the world.
Chongqing is an outstanding city in southwest China. It’s a city of beauty and mountains, where the roaring Yangtze River runs through lofty mountains and the Yangtze Gorges. Chongqing is also a city of magic. Over 800 years ago, Emperor Guangzong of the Song Dynasty was crowned here and ascended the throne resulting in his "double happiness," and he named the city Chongqing.
Travelers to the city can look forward to sights such as the magnificent stone sculpture of the Mercy Buddha—an 800-year-old local cliff carving. There is also a cable car that crosses the Yangtze River, taking in the houses on stilts which are built on the slopes along the river, and more than 10,000 river bridges. Visitors can enjoy authentic Sichuan food and relax in a hot spring bath in the bitter cold of winter, or take in fantastic artistic performances.
The IRONMAN 70.3 Chongqing will be held in Shapingba District, famous for its technology, education, and culture. The swim will be held in beautiful Lotus Lake, which blends natural mountains and lakes with characteristic charm. The cycling route will take athletes through rural sections west of Chongqing on roads with brand-new surfaces and scenic mountain views. The run will traverse the new Chongqing College City area's newly developed parks and running paths. The finish line is at Youth Square.
IRONMAN 70.3 Chongqing will have 30 qualifying slots for the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship and 50 qualifying slots for the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship available.
Eligible athletes receiving a slot can either accept a slot to the IRONMAN World Championship or a slot to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship (but not both).
