About this event

Greece conjures up images of sandy beaches under blue skies, fresh and nourishing cuisine, and whitewashed houses. It is also the country where the Olympic spirit was born, making it a fitting host for a triathlon. IRONMAN 70.3 Greece, Costa Navarino takes place in Paril, with the pleasant temperatures of spring bringing the ideal climate for racing. This unique race will take place in the Peloponnese—in the area around Costa Navarino and the Messenia regions. This area boasts one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Mediterranean, combined with a remarkable cultural heritage spanning 4,500 years. Visitors can explore monuments and archeological sites from every period of the Peloponnesian history, surrounded by a landscape of mountains, forests, and rivers. Athletes will embark on a 1.9-km swim in the Ionian Sea in front of the pristine beach of Navarino Dunes. They will ride through ancient olive groves and pine-covered hills, while never losing site of the deep blue of the Ionian Sea. Leaving Soulinari they will head to Gargaliani village and back to Costa Navarino. The bike course is a challenging, two-lap course over excellent paved roads. Finally, the half marathon will start from The Westin Resort Costa Navarino towards Omega (Voidokilia) beach—a sweeping semicircle beach of light golden sand. The beach is right next to Gialova lagoon, a protected Natura 2000 site. The course continues to the lagoon over the village's cobblestone roads before heading back to the finish line at The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort at Costa Navarino.

Super well organised (especially impressive given it was the inaugural year of the race). V choppy sea swim, made up for by a stunning cycle course with views of olive groves and a run in a lagoon. Great atmosphere, would highly recommend! Maybe next time organisers can provide suncream though!… read more

This event was great - you definitely wouldn't have known it was the inaugural Greece 70.3. Organization was on point and marshals were all incredibly friendly and supportive throughout the entire course. The 2m swell during the sea-swim made for a bit of a hectic start to the day, but I'm told it is usually pan-flat, so hopefully future years will be better.... The bike course is split into 4 out-and-backs, which makes it pass pretty quickly as you can just tick off 15k sections at a time, but it isn't particularly scenic. The first half of the run is absolutely beautiful as it goes through a national park (although there are a few sneaky climbs at the start which may seem small but are a killer when you've just come off the bike); the second half is just a straight road inland which gets very hot - make sure you bring a visor and some sunscreen, even if the forecast says it's going to rain. I'd highly recommend this event for anyone who wants to race in a beautiful holiday destination.

This was the first time that Ironman held a race in Greece and it was certainly one to remember. It was held in the beautiful resort of Costa Navarino. The bike course had perfectly smooth fast roads and was an ideal course for a TT bike (very fast!). The run took you along a beautiful cove and through a rustic Grecian village. The locals provided an abundance of support cheering and shouting 'Bravo' as we passed constantly. The transition area was well located and fair for all competitors. I will definitely be doing this race again! 10/10 from me
