The inaugural IRONMAN event in Scandinavia took place in Kalmar in 2012 and the event has quickly become an athlete favorite. The swim course is in the Baltic Sea, the bike course is over the 6 km long bridge to the island land, a popular spot for tourists from around the world, and the run course goes through central parts of Kalmar with the finish line located on the main square.
IRONMAN Kalmar will offer 40 qualifying slots for the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI.

If there is an Ironman event you are going to take on than Ironman Kalmar is the one you must do. The atmosphere all weekend is electric. The one loop swim course is well marshalled and wide enough you don't get in the way of other competitors.
The bike section is like a race track, don't think i seen a pot hole the whole course. Closed road, not one vehicle insight, no silly corners or dangerous sections that make you on edge. he transition area is well positioned within Kalmar with easy parking leading up to the day.
The run route is brilliant the crowds are amazing and so encouraging they get you round the run course and before you know it the red carpet is in sight. All in all if there is one Ironman you are going to do this is the one
