What you need to know

The Middle Distance Triathlon fits the Island as though Mersea was created for such an event!

Distances are the same as the half Ironman. The swim starts on the Jetty and takes competitors along the beach. The Cycle will take competitors off the Island along scenic Essex country lanes and over Abberton Reservoir before heading back to the Transition to begin the final leg. The Run for this event is effectively half a Marathon in distance.

Our unique Middle Distance Triathlon finishes with the run, around Mersea Island, the run distance is the exact circumference of Mersea Island. This is a flat triathlon but the terrain is a mixture of road, sand and seawall making it a unique but challenging course.

This is a great event for the more experience triathlete but is also a challenge for endurance lovers. It is also a fantastic event to enter as a relay team. Corporate packages are available.

The swim starts with a dive/jump off the floating pontoon jetty, situated in the heart of the fishing and sailing waterfront. Competitors then swim 750m along the coast through the moorings to the first beach, Shingle Point, behind the iconic houseboats. The Cycle leads competitors around the country roads of West Mersea. The Run has the competitors on roads for the first half before exiting onto the beach for the final 2.5km straight to the finish at Shingle Point. There, spectators gather to cheer each competitor back across the line.

It has become a tradition for each competitor to remain at the finish to cheer each and every participant home.

This is a common distance for a Duathlon and is a very popular event, it eliminates the Swim but still has three components Run, Cycle, Run.
The distance is an ideal challenge for beginners looking at getting into a multipart race. It is also a great event to add to the calendar for the seasoned triathletes and duathletes.
