Travel

Visit Morpeth

This is a classic historic village set on a river approx 30km inland from the coast. One of the original and first river ports, Morpeth is one of those places that are great to visit and just wander around. There are 2 pubs, lots of cafes and lots of very unique shops and galleries.

Traffic Changes

There will be some disruption to normal traffic movements, which we hope you can accommodate for a short period on the event morning by limiting any non-urgent use of the following roads from 6.30am – 11am.

The specific points would be:

  1. Queens Wharf Park (Boat Ramp) park is used as the event compound from Friday 2 Nov to Sunday 4 Nov. Queens Wharf Rd is closed 5.30am – 12.30pm Sunday 4 Nov.
  2. The Swim will be in the Hunter River from the boat ramp to Roberts St and back. The boat ramp will be closed on the Sunday morning. Reopened as soon as safe around 1pm. Spectators are welcome.
  3. The Cycle leg of the event will leave from Queens Wharf Park at approx. 7.00am and ride down Swan St, into Edward St, Duckenfield Rd and McFarlanes Rd. The course will return to the Queens Wharf Park. The long event will do 3 laps. Last rider is expected back by 11.00am. The course is out and back on most roads.
    1. Swan St would be closed on the river side heading east from Tank to Roberts St from 5.30am – 11am so riders can safely leave and return on that side. The town side of Swan St is OPEN west bound.
    2. Traffic controllers will give riders right of way though the bridge STOP SIGN.
  4. Riders would otherwise follow normal road rules east of Robert St, with right of way given to riders at some intersections manned by traffic controllers.
    1. While most roads are not closed, we would ask you to limit any non-urgent travel during the cycle event leg, do avoid unnecessary risk of collision with riders.
    2. Some roads will have speed limits reduced to 40km.
  5. The Run leg for the Triathlon and the Summer Run Fun Run will be staged on Queens Wharf Rd and Steamer St (a seldom used gravel/grass Rd below the lookout). The run leg is a 2.5km loop.
