This is the 10th year of the Marlow Sprint & Olympic Distance Triathlon, consisting of a river swim, cycling and running. The event has attracted 1000s of participants over the year and is open to all levels of participant and encourages first time triathletes to the event.

The Swim course is in the River Thames. It is designed to make even the weakest swimmer get a fast swim split.

The Marlow Classic Half Iron Distance is the only long distance event in the Thames Valley and is a fairly flat scenic course taking in the views of Marlow and the surrounding areas.

The Bike course for the Sprint Distance is 24.5km & the Olympic Distance is 37km. It is an out and back course and only has two hills, but otherwise fast and flat.

The Run course for the Sprint Distance is a 1 Lap 5km route & the Olympic Distance is 2 Laps for a 10km. The course is on Tarmac and Grass Footpaths. It meanders back towards Marlow and into the finish at Higginson Park from the river tow path.

The event is set to attract over 700 participants, as the world of endurance sports and triathlon creates massive demand for longer distance events over the shorter distances that have originally formed this great sport.

this is a really great event. My first 70.3 and definitely not my last. Nice and varied course, some challenging hills on the bike course, and a fun atmosphere at the finish line.
  • Did the Half Iron in 2019

Great race and fantastic atmosphere. Particularly enjoyed the hectic swim start and running down the tow paths.
  • Did the Half Iron in 2015

Excellent event on the River Thames and very well organised. The river swim leads to a great start to the day although be warned that the temperatures can be a little chilly! This is one of my favourite events on the calendar and leads to great weekend on the outskirts of London.
  • Did the Half Iron in 2019

well organised race and good course. Would have been nice to have done a couple more aid stations on the run.
  • Did the Olympic in 2019

Great event with a lovely river swim and a run along the river path. Slightly delayed start but didn't affect the day!
  • Did the Olympic in 2019

Lovely course and great event with a super atmosphere. All the event volunteers were very friendly and helpful. Real pain in the proverbial to have to come the day before to register, not to mention the climate impact of everyone doing the round trip twice. Timing on the day was a bit off, race started 15 mins late and the start of the swim was rushed with the start going about 5 seconds after the last person got in the water.
  • Did the Half Iron in 2014

This was my first ever 70.3 distance and I absolutely loved it. Hectic start in the water with all starting at the same time - my timing chip was actually pulled off me and I had to get a new one - but this added to the fun. Great atmosphere in the athlete village and it was a lovely touch being handed a beer at the finish line!
  • Did the Olympic in 2018

1:The day was great however having to go and pick your pack up the day before was a pain......2:The biggest thing for me was the colour of the buoys in the water, they should of been yellow, red, or orange and not blue/purple as they were very hard to see while you are swimming!!!3:The water stations were very close together which didn't make much sense cold of done with one more water station.
  • Did the Olympic in 2018

I had to make a extra trip to Marlow to pick up my race number. It could have been sent in the post and it seems it was possible to pick it up on the day. It was an hour round trip.
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

Good race, well marked. People were drafting though and marshals didn't know the rules so cheating was going on but overall was good.

Hi, Do you advise wearing a wetsuit for this or will a tri suit suffice? thanks

    S

    Steph E8th May
Hey there, the Marlow Classic follows the British Triathlon Rules and Regulations. They state it is mandatory to wear a wetsuit when the water temperature falls below 16°C. The average water temperate Marlow is anything from 14°C to 22°C, to be on the safe side I would recommend wearing a wetsuit. All the best!
