This is the 10th year of the Marlow Sprint & Olympic Distance Triathlon, consisting of a river swim, cycling and running. The event has attracted 1000s of participants over the year and is open to all levels of participant and encourages first time triathletes to the event.

The Swim course is in the River Thames. It is designed to make even the weakest swimmer get a fast swim split.

The Marlow Classic Half Iron Distance is the only long distance event in the Thames Valley and is a fairly flat scenic course taking in the views of Marlow and the surrounding areas.

The Bike course for the Sprint Distance is 24.5km & the Olympic Distance is 37km. It is an out and back course and only has two hills, but otherwise fast and flat.

The Run course for the Sprint Distance is a 1 Lap 5km route & the Olympic Distance is 2 Laps for a 10km. The course is on Tarmac and Grass Footpaths. It meanders back towards Marlow and into the finish at Higginson Park from the river tow path.

The event is set to attract over 700 participants, as the world of endurance sports and triathlon creates massive demand for longer distance events over the shorter distances that have originally formed this great sport.

  • Did the Olympic in 2018

1:The day was great however having to go and pick your pack up the day before was a pain......2:The biggest thing for me was the colour of the buoys in the water, they should of been yellow, red, or orange and not blue/purple as they were very hard to see while you are swimming!!!3:The water stations were very close together which didn't make much sense cold of done with one more water station.

I had to make a extra trip to Marlow to pick up my race number. It could have been sent in the post and it seems it was possible to pick it up on the day. It was an hour round trip.
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

Good race, well marked. People were drafting though and marshals didn't know the rules so cheating was going on but overall was good.

This race was part of my tri club's championship race series so there was quite a few of us taking part. A few had raced this race the previous year and highly rated it, so I was looking forward to it.
There were several race distances going on the same day but all were split up nicely so there wasn't loads of people racing at once. Registration was nice and simple and transition was close to the car park so quick and easy to get setup before the race. Race briefing was informative, but as there was no microphone or megaphone it was quite hard to hear everything that was being said if you were towards the back.
The race itself was great, with a 2 loop swim in the Thames before heading out onto the bike on another 2 loop route with some short and sharp climbs in places but also a long fast downhill. The run is pretty flat the whole way round too and has good support as it passes back through the race village each loop. Just watch out for walkers and dogs along the way as it's quite a popular route on a Sunday morning.
Good marshal coverage throughout the race and great medal at the end. Definitely recommend the race for triathletes of all abilities as it caters for all distances.
  • Did the event in 2017

I have completed both the sprint and Olympic distance course the past few years and am going back for another Olympic bosh next weekend. I have done a few F3 events over the past years and I have to say they are bang on and not too expensive. The event is never too busy so registration and set up is usually straght forward. The swim is up and down stream, short dash to transition, and onto the bike. The bike mount is across a field so be prepared for a few hundred metres of running with your bike first. Bike course is fine, couple of hills but not too bad. I felt the difference between the sprint and Olympic distance was a rather long hill! Bike is back into transition the same way out and off on a mixed run between a tow path and a pleasant housing estate.I would recommend to first timers and experienced athletes

Thought this race was well-organised by F3 events. I did one of their previous races at Shiplake and was not too impressed but this one was much better. River swim was good and started on time-cycle course was good but on some fast roads with traffic so you had to pay attention. I liked the run route too so would recommend this race.
