In 2018, we celebrate the 24th Maroondah Dam trail run and continue to support CanTeen.

All Trailsplus events donate $1 of each participant's race entry fee to CanTeen, the Australian organisation for Young people Living with cancer.

Course Details

Technical and Steep Downhill

Although the course is very runnable in most parts, there are some very steep and technical sections. Please ensure you move at a controllable pace, take extreme care when you start to descend from the towers at the top of Mt St Leonard, the first 1km is unstable, rocky and technical SLOW DOWN HERE.

As always have fun and enjoy the experience, there are lots of undulating sections that require your full attention but for the most part the course is very runnable.

Carried out past he toilet block below the Dam Wall. This is off the main car park and also the start / finish line for all distances in 2018.

Will begin at approximately 2pm, please ensure you hang around for your awards if you think you have placed, there may be some great prizes that are worth sticking around for too.

Travel

Maroondah Dam Park is situated in the beautiful Yarra Ranges National Park. Entrance is from the Maroondah Hwy, about 3km east of Healesville. Maroondah features gardens with stands of native and exotic trees, native animals and birds and walking tracks. Its playground, lawns and cool summer shade make it a popular picnic destination in warmer months. In March, it is a very pleasant place for supporters to have a picnic or BBQ while they wait for their competitors!

Car Parking

The car park next to Henderson picnic area is large and has plenty of space. However, we must leave room for other park users. Please park carefully, in straight lines, without leaving too much space between vehicles. It is a dirt carpark with no bays marked, so please be sensible and respectful of others.

Going Greener

The race organisers are eliminating paper cups at the events. If you do not bring your own handheld cup/drink bottle, there will be silicone foldable cups available for $2 purchase at registration.

Rules and Regulations

All participants must obey the instructions of the race director, event representatives and Parks Victoria employees.

Postponement / Cancellation

Should the weather or other conditions outside the control of the race director prevent the race from proceeding on the scheduled date, the event will where possible be rescheduled to a future date. Refunds will be not be available if the event is forced to be cancelled. A future date will be organised with Parks Victoria where possible and your entry will carry over to that date only. There will be no refunds if you can't make the rescheduled date.

Withdrawals

For the safety of all participants please notify the nearest checkpoint of your intention to withdraw from the event.

Cut Off Times

To ensure the safety of all participants we will be applying cut off times for some of the events. These will be listed on each race's information page. Cut off times are adjustable at the discretion of the race director and medical staff.

Safety

All events of this nature carry elements of risk, so it is the responsibility of all participants to conduct themselves in a safe manner and to help other participants if injured or in need of assistance. Conditions can vary quickly with the most likely problem being exposure to the weather. All participants should have suitable clothing as the conditions could be very cool.

iPods and other Music Devices

All music devices are frowned upon, for competitors while participating in this event.

Many trails are very technical and surrounded by fantastic scenery. There are often sections of single trail that require your senses to be at full alert. Some events require crossing roads, some of which are under control of traffic managers. It is extremely important that you are fully alert to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all involved. On occasions branches can fall from trees. If you hear the break you can most likely avoid the falling branch, if you have music in your ears you most definitely won't. Please, for your safety, NO music devices.

Please leave your iPods off the trail and enjoy real trail running and the camaraderie of those running with you.

Please understand and respect the reasons for the restriction. Anyone carrying and using an iPod may be disqualified (no series points will be issued and no time recorded).

Compulsory Clothing

Please note that mountain trails can be subject to rapidly changing weather conditions. This means you may be required to carry a minimum amount of clothing. You will be advised in the final pre race news letter & on the website if this is likely. If the weather turns cold, you may be fine while running well, but if you are injured and can't move or have to walk slowly, you will very quickly become hyperthermic.

Injured

If a participant is injured or becomes incapacitated, if it is safe to do so, other participants MUST assist them to the nearest check point.

Rubbish

No rubbish to be left on the course. Please place all items, no matter how small, in pockets for depositing in bins at check points. This is extremely important to ensure the ongoing support of Parks Victoria and the future of the race.

Insurance

Participants should note that public liability insurance exists for this event, however it does not cover individual medical or rescue costs. This cost is the responsibility of each individual competitor. Therefore, it is highly recommended that your ambulance cover is up to date.

Course Notes

The course will be marked, and all efforts will be made to make the course easy to follow. We suggest each participant make themselves familiar with the course. A little knowledge just may come in very handy. However, we recommend you carry a map in case you get off course. The map will help you get back to the right place. Maps are available for printing from the website.

Race Bibs

Please note that nothing is sent to runners in the post. Race bibs must be collected on race morning at registration.

Trailsplus may use an electronic timing system for some Mountain Trail races. For these races, your race bib carries an electronic chip that will be read as you pass under the gantry at the finish line. It is very important that you wear your bib correctly in order for your finish time to be recorded.

Bib must be visible at all times

Bib MUST NOT BE WORN ON THE LEG OR BACK

Do not cover your number with your hand as you check your watch!!

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE YOUR BIB IS WORN IN A MANNER FOR YOUR TIME TO BE RECORDED, SO PLEASE ENSURE THE RACE NUMBER AND TIMING CHIP ARE IN CLEAR VIEW WHEN PASSING THE FINISH LINE.

The timing chip remains the property of Trailsplus. There will be someone to collect your chip when you finish. They will remove it from the back of your race bib. If this does not occur, and you take the chip home with you, please return it via post to

Personal Belongings and Valuables

Trailsplus will provide an area where personal belongings may be placed during the race. However, we cannot guarantee their safety. If you have valuables that you are concerned about, please lock them in your car.
