This DOC protected Island is the jewel in Wellington's harbour and a national treasure. This is an exceptional swim area. For those who want an endurance challenge you can swim to the Island from Petone and continue around the Islands for the long 6.7 km swim. For those who want all the scenery but without the extra 3 km of swimming there are 2 courses - around Matiu/Somes Island only (3 km) and around both Matiu/Somes & Mokupuna Islands (3.7 km).

Why do this swim - because it sits there in the distance and you know you will feel energised forever by being able to say you swam it. If you are swimming it again you will likely be signing up as it is a magnificent swim course - crystal clear waters, plenty of marine and bird life and a real buzz. Discovering this Island from the water is simply magic. We are very happy to bring you this opportunity.
