Event summary

The MLT Moonshine Trail offers a once-a-year chance to traverse the infamous Hokonui Hills, with great courses, great scenery, and great company. With a fantastic range of spot prizes up for grabs, challenging but achievable courses and distances ranging from 5km to 50km, this is a great day out! Please remember the majority of this event is held on private farmland which is only accessible during the event.

50km MTB

The CrossRoad Cycles 50km MTB event is a tough, off-road mountain bike. Winding through seven farm properties, the course travels across ridges, through creeks, and has a number of climbs followed by awesome downhills all of which are part of Southland’s exceptional and distinctive Hokonui landscape.

39km MTB

The Southland Isuzu 39km MTB event is a tough, off-road mountain bike. Winding through seven farm properties, the course travels across ridges, through creeks, and has a number of climbs followed by awesome downhills all of which are part of Southland’s exceptional and distinctive Hokonui landscape.

30km MTB

The Ewan Allan Honda 30km MTB event is a challenging, off-road mountain bike. Winding through five farm properties, the course travels across ridges and has a number of climbs followed by awesome downhill’s all of which are part of Southland’s exceptional and distinctive Hokonui landscape.

15 km MTB

The run begins from behind the car park and takes an initial 1.5km up the Whiskey Creek Track. Turn right down Domain Rd and then left at Raby Rd (heading towards Gore) for 2.2kms on this sealed road. At Hewlett Rd, turn left and then follow across farmland to the edge of the bush where you start onto the Hokonui Water Race Trail. Approx. 4kms of gentle uphill following the Water Race’s gradient, then you turn right onto the Hidden Valley Route for approx 500m. Now back on Whiskey Creek Track continue up past the Waterfall and over the low saddle via this challenging bush track. Finally drop down into the Waimumu Stream headwaters and follow the boardwalk section down to the FINISH at Dolamore Park.

5km Run/Walk

The 5km course follows the Whiskey Creek Track, an undulating and challenging bush track around the outskirts of Dolamore Park.

Duathalon

The duathlon event includes a tough, off-road 30km Mountain bike. Winding through five farm properties, the course travels across ridges, through creeks, and has a number of climbs followed by awesome downhill’s all of which are part of Southland’s exceptional and distinctive Hokonui landscape. Transition will take place in the carpark at Dolamore Park where competitors then follow the Whiskey Creek Track, an undulating and challenging bush track around the outskirts of Dolamore Park.

The prizegiving will be held at Dolamore Park finish area (weather permitting) at 2.30pm; or as soon as the last competitor crosses the finish line.

From Invercargill: We suggest turning left onto Charlton Road. Travel along Charlton Road which turns into Waimumu Road. Turn right onto Lady Charlton Road and carry on. Turn left onto Reaby Road and turn right onto Dolamore Park Road. Dolamore Park will be on your right.

From Queenstown: We suggest turning right onto Kingdon Road approximately 5km before Gore. Travel along Kingdon Road which turns into Reaby Road. Carry on along Reaby
Road and turn right onto Dolamore Park Road. Dolamore Park will be on your right.

From Dunedin: We suggest turning right at the big roundabout onto Waimea Highway (signposted SH94 to Lumsden/Te Anau). It is approximately 5km along SH94 you turn left onto Kingdon Road. Travel along Kingdon Road which turns into Reaby Road. Carry on along Reaby Road and turn right onto Dolamore Park Road. Dolamore Park will be on your right.
