What you need to know

The award-winning Mumbles Triathlon has become a well known event in South Wales, and attracts a number of athletes from all levels and experience.

The Mumbles Tri offers athletes three course distances in the idyllic setting of Mumbles Bay for the Swim, the famous Gower Roads for the bikes and a picturesque run along the stunning shoreline of the Mumbles Bay.

The Mumbles Triathlon can be entered by anyone who feels they are capable of competing. There is gender separation, so men and women compete for first place in their respective category.

What’s Included

Registration will be at the Mumbles Yacht Club.

You will need your photo ID and a signed disclaimer form to register. Without these we have the right to stop you from competing. Only you can register, you are not allowed to register somebody else.

Entries are non-transferable, so if someone else takes part under your details you and the person racing will be disqualified and banned from all Activity Wales Events.
At registration you will receive an envelope which will include the following: 2 x Bib Numbers, 1 x Helmet Number, 1 x Bike post Number, 1 x Timing Chip and 1 x Swim Hat. Please make sure you complete the medical information on the back of your bibs.

Pre event Massage will be available at registration from Vicki White Sports Massage.

Please remember to pick up any pre-ordered clothing at registration.

Course Details

Swim

The swim will take an anti-clockwise direction. You will swim around the large orange buoy and then head out across to the second buoy and then back to shore. The Middle distance will be a 2 lap course and the Sprint and Super Sprint will be a 1 lap course.

Bike

The 56 mile route is a 3 lap course around the Gower peninsula. There will be a feed station which you will pass, we recommend you start the course with 2 full bottles on board.

Run

The 4 lap Run Course comes to a total of 13.1 miles.

Travel

Directions from the M4

  1. Leave M4 at Junction 42 – the deceleration lane bends to the left sharply, so be careful!
  2. Join the A483 and follow it into Swansea; watch your speed (cameras).
  3. Immediately after crossing the river, turn left. You can join either lane.
  4. Follow the coast road all the way around the bay into Mumbles village.
  5. Drive through the village.
  6. Drive past a mini children’s park on the left.
  7. Drive past The Pilot Pub on the right.
  8. Take the next left into Knab Rock car park.
  9. If you go up a steep hill with the pier down to the left, you’ve just missed us!

Parking is available at the following car parks:

  • Car Park, 35-37 Newton Road
Spectators

Toilet Facilities

There are public toilets at the start/finish line or at the Mumbles Yacht Club.

Where to eat

The Galley will be in attendance at the event selling bacon rolls, burgers, teas and coffees throughout the day.
Verdi’s will also be open from 10am.

Volunteers

Being part of the volunteer team can involve route marshaling, manning aid stations, pre and post-race set up… and everything in between! In addition to this, your encouragement and enthusiasm to both the athletes and the team is invaluable! It’s a great personal reward for you and makes a huge difference to the athletes on the day.

There’s some great benefits to being a marshal for Activity Wales Events including:

Are there age restrictions for race entry?

Can somebody else register for me?
No. For safety & security reasons you must register yourself and bring photo identification so that we can guarantee we are giving the right race number & timing chip to the correct athlete.

I haven’t received my confirmation email/race pack?
The Race pack can be downloaded from this link as of two weeks prior to the event. If you cannot find these emails, It is often the case that they end up in spam/deleted folders. If you have checked these folders – as well as any other email accounts you may have registered with – and still can’t find it, contact us using the contact form.

When do I get my race number and timing chip?
These must be collected at the time of registration upon showing photo ID and a signed copy of the disclaimer.

Is there a race briefing?
As well as the mandatory video briefing, which you can watch from the website, there will be a race briefing at the start of each race.

Where do I get my race number?
Your race number must be collected when you register. You will be given an envelope containing all the numbers & timing chips you will need for the events you have entered. You will need to pick this up from the Yacht Club.

Where do I put my race number?
For the bike section of the course, the number must be worn on your BACK, as well as the bike number being placed on the seatpost, and the sticker upon the helmet. For the run, the number must be worn on the FRONT.

Are there official photographers?
Yes Charles Whitton Photography will be doing the photos for the event and will be available at http://www.charleswhittonphotography.com/.

How do I find my race time?
Tri and Enter are the official timing company for the event. The times will be listed later, on the day of the event.

What is the prize structure?
There are medals for everyone who crosses the finish line, including children who wish to run with their loved one! There are trophies for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd overall male & female. There will be a ceremony for 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize giving at the end of each event. Age category trophies will be posted out after the event. If 1st, 2nd, 3rd trophies are not collected at the prize giving, there is a 30 day collection period, where they can be collected from our Haverfordwest Office, or posted out at a cost of £5 shipping & handling.

Is there a lost property?
Yes. Any lost property not collected from the expo will be returned to our office, where it can be collected free of charge or posted out with the cost of Postage & packaging covered by the owner of the property within 60 days of the event.

What roads will be closed?
There are no road closures for this event.

Bike FAQs

Can I use tri bars (aerobars)?
Yes Tri Bars are allowed.

Is There a Cut-off?
Yes, for the longer distance there will be a cut off in place. Details to follow.

Run FAQs

Can I wear headphones?
No, we discourage against anyone wearing headphones to race in.

Is there a cut off?
Yes there will be a cut off for the Run and overall of the event. Details can be found in the itinerary.
