A double marathon might sound intimidating, but this South Downs event really is for everyone. You have the option to run, jog or walk the 52.4 mile route and can choose to split the race across two days or complete it in just one if you're looking for an extra challenge.

Time will fly by as you take in the picturesque British countryside on show along the route. The grand finale is certainly something to look forward to as you cross the finish line by Winchester Cathedral to celebrate amongst the very first Kings and Queens of England.

    Course Details
    • Total distance – 53 miles
    • Total climb – 5,051ft.
    • Day 1 distance – 23 miles
    • Day 1 total climb – 2,718ft.
    • Day 2 distance – 30 miles
    • Day 2 total climb – 2,333ft

    Start point - Slindon Estate (near Arundel)

    End point - Winchester Cathedral

    There will be a staggered start to avoid congestion.

    Once you're on your way, you will work your way along a ridge of chalk hills, across the South Downs Way and be treated to spectacular views of the countryside and historical monuments throughout. Notable sites along the route include:

    Start address: Gaston Farm, School Hill, Slindon, Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 0RS

    Base camp ( midway point and Day 2 start address): Hundred Acres Farm, Compton, West Sussex, PO18 9NN (note the base camp is a field and not the post code doesn't match exactly, but it is very close as this is the address for the main farm) t

    Finish address: Winchester Cathedral, 9 The Close, Winchester, Hampshire, SO23 9LS

    Saturday Start Time - Between 7.30-8.30am with elite runners in the earlier waves. We recommend arriving 45 minutes before your start time in order to check you're ready and prepared.

    Sunday Start Time - Between 6-7am

    Cut off Times

    For those doing the non stop route - 7.30am on Saturday until 8pm on Sunday

    For those doing the two day route - 7.30am-10pm on Saturday and 6.30am-8pm on Sunday

    Additional information

    For those doing the event in one day, event organisers will transport your kit from the start to the finish line.

    If you are doing the event across 2 days, event organisers will move your bags from the start to the end point for each day (i.e. base camp at the end of day 1 and the finish line at the end of day 2).


    You can book parking or shuttle services at an additional cost online. Further information will be communicated via email.

    There will be a drop off zone for those wishing to be dropped at the event start line. Please note you cannot park here for longer than 30 minutes.

    Kit List

    We all know that the English weather is unpredictable so please pack appropriately and for all scenarios (cold, wet and wind or sun, shine and heat!).

    A decent pair of walking boots or trainers are advisable with parts of the routes having rocky underlay.

    A kit list will be sent out prior to the event with further information but below are some suggestions:

    • Trail trainers or walking boots
    • Sports socks
    • Short and long sleeve sports top
    • Blister plasters
    • Waterproof lightweight jacket
    • Cap and sunglasses to protect from the heat (and suncream)
    • Gloves/hat for the cold

    Friends and family are more than welcome to come support. Further information on look out points will be provided in due course closer to the event.


    Is there an age limit?

    Yes, the minimum age is 16 years. 16-18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult too.

    Can I change my start waive time?

    Yes if you email the event organiser, you can change this up a one month before the event.

    How do I receive my race pack?

    This will be posted to you ahead of the event. It includes your bib number, luggage label and participant wristband.

    However those who register from abroad or after 13th May must collect their race pack on the event day at the registration desk.

    Can I bring my dog?

    Unfortunately not (apart from assistance dogs)

    Will there be live tracking on the event?

    No. As an alternative, we suggest using a tracker app so friends and family can see your progress.

    Is there medical support?

    Yes, there will be medics along the route but we do also suggest that you bring a basic first aid kit for any minor injuries such as blisters, cuts and scrapes.
