Course Details

Half Marathon:

The race takes place on the beautiful, historic New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University. The course goes through the several campuses offering great scenic views.

This course is 13.1 miles of collegiate beauty that will take your breath away. Rutgers University is one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful campuses in the country. The Rutgers UNITE Half Marathon does indeed unite runners of all abilities from elite to novice.

The point to point route passes by the recently renovated Rutgers Stadium, historic College Ave. Gym and finishes down College Avenue to thousands of fans!

Race the premier New Jersey half marathon!

8K:

The 8k is 4.88 miles and runs the same course as the half marathon finishing down College Avenue to thousands of spectators!

Race Weekend Details:

Race Day: Sunday

Race Starts at 8:00 AM

6:00 am –  Shuttles from College Avenue to Start Line (Busch Campus)

7:55 am –   National Anthem

8:00 am – Half Marathon Race Start

8:15 am –   8K Race Start

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Finish Line Festival

10:30 am – 2:00 pm – Shuttle From College Avenue return to Busch Campus Lots

10:30 am – Awards Ceremony

11:30 pm – Course Closes

Travel

Getting Here:

The finish line sits in the heart of New Brunswick, NJ with both public transportation and the train station within walking distance. You may park at the finish line (and walk or take a shuttle to start) or park at the start line and take a return shuttle to the start line after you finish..

Start Line/Busch Campus

Shuttle Service:

There is a shuttle service to and from the start and finish lines.

Shuttles will run to start of race: 6:00 am – 7:30 am

Last Shuttle to Start 8:00 AM

Shuttles run to finish from 8:15 am – 10:30 am

Shuttles return to Busch Campus from the finish line from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Shuttle service will operate from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm at a frequency of every 15 minutes. The route will be set up to run between the Stadium West Lot and the corner of George and Hamilton Streets.

The buses will only pick up and drop off at the following locations;

  • Finish – Voorhees Mall on Hamilton Street
  • Finish – Zimmerli Art Museum – George and Hamilton
  • Student Activity Center
  • Start/Busch Campus – Stadium West Lot

Spectators

To make your experience the best ever here are a few tips for race day:

Make sure you know your runners bib number. Due to HIPPA laws we cannot give out any athlete information.

Know your runner’s estimated finish time. This way you won’t make your loved ones stand at the finish line for hours.

You are be able to see your runner several times along the course.

Start Line

Walk to start or hop on a shuttle. Check out the Race Info page/transportation for shuttle details.

Mile 6

Stay at the start line because your runners coming back through. Hop back on the shuttle at the Stadium lot and catch them at finish.

Finish Line

Stay at the finish line or walk .10 of a mile up the road and cheer them down the chute!

Volunteers

Raise funds for your non-profit while having a great time!

More than 2,000 volunteers are needed to assist on race weekend. Volunteers are in integral part of the Rutgers Unite Half Marathon bringing energy and enthusiasm to tens of thousands of runners.

We will make a generous donation to your organization for volunteering on race weekend. The donation is based upon the number of volunteers you provide. We require a minimum of (20) volunteers for any group volunteer donation.

CHEER ZONE

Friends, families, groups of any kind, we would love for you to be a part of this special weekend. We would love for your group to support and cheer our runners to finish. Bring your cowbells, clappers and big old cheers and help them finish strong.

FAQs

Course Rules and Time Limits:

  1. You must be able to complete the half marathon in 3.5 hours or less.
  2. Race numbers are required to participate – no bandits please.
  3. You must be at least 13 years old to participate.
  4. You must be in good health and physically prepared to take on the challenge.
  5. You must show photo ID to receive your race number and timing tag.
  6. Coaches, baby-joggers, bikes, dogs, in-line skates, skateboards or dogs will not be allowed on the course.
  7. If you attempt to sell your race number, you may be banned from future CGI Racing.

Medical:

The medical command center will be at the finish line along with a medical spotter tent.

Medical will be positioned on mobile units along the course.

Please make sure you fill out the emergency info label on the back of your bid. Due to HIPPA laws we cannot give out any athlete information other than bib number.

How do I get my race packet?

All runners must pick up their packets at the street Festival & Expo on Saturday 9am – 4 pm. There is no race day packet pickup. Runners may pick up other runners packets with a copy of photo ID.

What is the minimum age to participate in the race?

13, however anyone under 13 but older than 10 may participate as long as they are accompanied by a registered adult through the entire course.

What are the types and where are the locations for the replacement fluids?

All hydration stations will have water. Gatorade and water will be at all water stops except WS1. GU will be at WS 4.

Can I use a baby jogger, roller blades, scooter or bike?

No. These items are all strictly prohibited from the race course.

Can I use headphones or earbuds?

The rule prohibiting headphones is no longer enforced by USATF; however, we recommends you do not wear them during the race. Runners’ ability to hear and react to situations and directions given by race officials is very important. Your safety is always our topmost concern.

Is there a gear check?

Gear check will be located at the Start at the Werblin Rec Center on Busch campus and then we will transport your gear to the finish festival on Seminary Avenue/College Avenue campus.

Is the race walker friendly?

Absolutely. You must hit mile four in 1 hour and 20 minutes of start and you must complete the race in 3.5 hours otherwise you can finish but unsupported.
