Race through the heart of historic Rutgers University for this scenic half marathon and post-race festival. Walk or run your way through the course as it weaves its way past live bands and cheering crowds. Come for the fancy dress, the incredible finish, technical t-shirt and medal.

Running down towards the finish line on College Avenue will have you feeling like the Scarlet Knight mascot kicking of a game of college football as thousands of supporters cheer you on. You can't help but get caught up in the excited frenzy of it all.

Course Details

Half Marathon:

Run through the historic and gorgeous New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University - one of the oldest and largest university campuses in the US. You will pass through three different campuses which hold some great scenic views to take your breath away.

The route will take your past the recently renovated Rutgers Stadium, historic College Avenue Gym and finishes down College Avenue in front of thousands of cheering fans!

8K:

The 8k (4.88 miles) runs shorter but very similar course to the above, also finishing down College Avenue to thousands of spectators!

Raceday Logistics

6:00 am –  Shuttles from College Avenue to Start Line (Busch Campus)

7:55 am –   National Anthem

8:00 am – Half Marathon Race Start

8:15 am –   8K Race Start

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Finish Line Festival

10:30 am – 2:00 pm – Shuttle From College Avenue return to Busch Campus Lots

10:30 am – Awards Ceremony

11:30 pm – Course Closes

Travel

the finish line is only a short walk away, in the centre of New Brunswick where you can find the train station and other modes of public transport.

Shuttles start from 6:00 - 7:30 am, and again from 8:15 - 10:30 am, to taketo and from the finish line and finish start. - so you can park at either end and shuttle as needed.

Start Line: GPS Sonny Werblin Recreation Center ~ 656 Bartholomew Rd. ~ Piscataway, NJ

Finish Line: GPS 1 – 17 Hamilton St, New Brunswick, NJ 08901

Shuttles return to Busch Campus from the finish line from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

From 6:00 am to 3:00 pm there will be a shuttle every 15 minutes to take people between the Stadium West Lot and the corner of George and Hamilton Streets.

Shuttles will stop at these locations;

  • Finish – Voorhees Mall on Hamilton Street
  • Finish – Zimmerli Art Museum – George and Hamilton
  • Student Activity Center
  • Start/Busch Campus – Stadium West Lot
Kit List
Wear decent running shoes and any other gear that you may require to run this race.
Spectators

Spectators are warmly welcomed. They can also make use of the shuttles that run throughout the day.

Volunteers

The race requires in excess of 2,000 volunteers to function. Volunteers bring energy to the whole event, which is then absorbed by the athletes - they are super important.

A donation will be provided by the race organizers if you sign up in a group of 20 or more.

CHEER ZONE

The Rutgers Half Marathon and 8k wouldn't be the same without our famous Cheer Zone. Anyone can sign up to cheer the runners over the finish line. You are encouraged to make as much noise as you possibly can. Bring clappers and bells if you like.

FAQs

    Is There a Time Limit?

    The time-limit is 3.5 hours. Runners will nit be stopped , however, wHEn they reach the finish they may find the volunteers packing up.

    Is there minimum-age?

    The minimum age limit is 13 years old. The y must be 13 on the day if the race. Those who are ages 10-13 may participate in the 8k race as long as they are accompanied by an adult for the entire race. Those under 10 are strictly prohibited from running the course.

Medical:

The medical HQ will be at the finish line. In addition, there will be mobile units placed along the route. Please fill out the medical emergency information on the reverse of your bib - this will help officials should you fall ill.

How do I get my race packet?

Race packets will be available to pick up at the Festival & Expo on Saturday from 9 am – 4 pm. you cannot pick-up the race packet on race day. You will be able to pick up race packets for a friend as long as you bring there photo ID.

Where can I find hydration stations?

There will be hydration stations throughout the course. Most will have both water and Gatorade, with a few exceptions only having water available.

Will I be able to participate on a bike, scooter or roller blades?

No, baby strollers are also prohibited.

Will I be able to use headphones or earbuds?

There is no rule saying that you can run with headphones in. However, during the race it is discouraged out of respect for other runners. They restrict your ability to hear other runners around your or instructions from the race marshals. Plus, you won't be able to hear the live bands along the race course!

Can I check any baggage?

There is a secure bag check at the Start the bags are transported will then be transported to the finish festival on Seminary Avenue/College Avenue campus.

Can I walk the race?

Yes. However, you reach mile 4 before 1 hour 20 minutes of the race start and finish in under 3.5 hours. If you fail yo fall under these time limits won't be stopped from running, however, a lot of the race facilities may have already been packed away.
