Route information
Lay Associates 21.1km Half Marathon - run, hybrid & walk
It is a scenic, flat, fast half marathon.
This is a flat, loop course that uses the rural roads of Ellesmere. Ideal for first time half marathon runners or those wanting to do a personal best. It starts in Leeston at Anderson Square. You leave Leeston and run out through the countryside to and through the Southbridge township where locals will be cheering you on. Within Southbridge the 10km competitors merge with you as you hit the home straight to Leeston. As you come into Leeston you run down the main street. You’ll feel like a champion as the crowds cheer!! You then finish on Gallipoli Street, beside Anderson Square where your fan club will be waiting.
There will be music, food stalls and lovely grass to lie on and recover until prizegiving.
Note that the Athletics Canterbury Half Marathon Championship is restricted to entrants 17 years of age and older. Contact Peter King for further information on the Championship race, rayma_k@xtra.co.nzExternalLink.
This is an Athletics New Zealand Sanctioned Event
McMillan 10km 'Drilling' - run & walk
A flat and fast course, using the rural roads of Ellesmere.
This can be done as a run, individually or in a team of three, or individually as a walk. You start at the iconic Southbridge Rugby Club where Dan Carter began his career. You complete a lap around the field, then follow the same course as the second half of the half marathon, by running through the Southbridge township before hitting the home straight to finish in Leeston. You finish on Gallipoli Street after running down the main street in Leeston where there will be locals cheering you home. You will be able to rest up afterwards to live music and plenty of food stalls on the grass in Anderson Square.
There will be a bus running from Anderson Square to Southbridge (register your interest when you enter) or you can make your own way there.
Oakleys 5km - run & walk
This can be done as a walk or run. It begins on Gallipoli St beside Anderson Square. It goes through the Leeston township then out through the countryside of Ellesmere around ‘Marshall’s Block’. It uses the same great finish as the other races down the main street of Leeston and onto Gallipoli Street, beside Anderson Square.
G & M Contracting Kids Dash
This is a participation race that is a great way to get children active without having to worry about their placing. The quiet roads of Leeston provide the perfect course for children of all ages and abilities to go for a dash. Each entrant will receive a race number so their time will be taken but there will be no placing prizes. Instead each finisher will receive a finisher’s prize for completing the race.
The Kids Dash will be run over a 1400m road course. It starts on Gallipoli Street beside the Leeston Medical Centre. Children may be started in age/gender group waves (if entry numbers warrant it) and finish on the same straight as all other races so every child will experience the cheers of all the locals lining High Street.
All entrants under 5 years of age MUST be accompanied by an adult.
