High in the peaks of the Rocky Mountains lies the Aspen Snowmass complex, Colorados premier ski resort. But dont be fooled: this course is just as thrilling without the snow. Spartan will bring you across the craggy terrain of the Colorado Rockies as you conquer an Ultra, Beast or Sprint.

This course is part of Spartans Mountain Series, presented by the U.S. Air Force Special Ops. With origins in the legendary mountain races of Europe, these courses are designed for seasoned athletes and weekend hikers alike.

Course Details

Ultra: 30 mi, 60 Obstacles
The Ultra is the first race of its kind to bring the best of OCR and ultra-endurance sports together. If you’re a traditional ultra-endurance sports fan, you will love the Ultra.

Beast: 13 mi, 30 Obstacles
If you’re looking to unleash your inner beast and go to places you never imaged, the Spartan Beast is perfect for you. With 13 mi / 21 km and 30 obstacles between you and the finish line, the Spartan Beast will test everything you’re made of: your strength, your endurance, your resolve. The unpredictable terrain and Spartan Obstacles are masterfully designed to push you deep into your discomfort zone, and well past those self-imposed obstacles you once considered your limits. Beast mode: on.

Sprint:
The Sprint may be our shortest distance race, but it’s still a favorite amongst both new and returning racers. It’s the perfect distance for those looking to start their Spartan journey. The Sprint also allows returning racers a manageable distance to see how far they can push themselves. Delivering 20 obstacles over 3 mi / 5 km, you’ll never run the same race twice. Once you complete the sprint you are 1/3 on your Spartan TRIFECTA: The ultimate Spartan achievement.

Kit List

We recommend dressing in performance gear (NOT COTTON). Think compression tights or shorts and breathable tops made from water wicking material. Wear comfortable shoes that you’ve trained in, but beware, they are going to get dirty. In addition to your clothes, consider fuel when planning for race day. For a Sprint distance you can normally get away with the water stations on course, but for our longer distances (Super, Beast, Ultra) we strongly suggest wearing a hydration pack and carrying energy gels or Clif bars.

Volunteers

As a Spartan Race volunteer, you will help our racers and spectators to have an epic race day. A big AROO for all our volunteers as you will have a unique race experience in all that is Spartan! Come join us!

Top reasons to take on this course:

  • Aspen Snowmass might be known for its famous ski season, but this beautiful area has plenty to do in the summer. Hit the ropes courses and zip lines at Lost Forest, take a hike across the Rocky Mountains, or soar above the peaks in a hot air balloon.
  • Nearby the course, the Maroon Bells peaks stand at the far edge of Maroon Lake. This mountain range includes some of the most photographed summits in North America, and their stunning colors and sheer size are worth the trek.
  • Head over to Aspen village and stroll around the Aspen Saturday Market, or grab some grub at Ajax Tavern or the Limelight Lounge.
  • Soak in a bit of local culture. Spend an afternoon at the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, take a trip to the Aspen Art Museum or learn about the area’s history at the Aspen Historical Society.
