What you need to know

The Sydney Morning Herald Aquathlon will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019.
Aquathlon will consist of a Run, Swim, Run course beginning in Dee Why with a 2km run followed by a 500m swim at North Curl Curl and finishing with a 6km run to South Steyne, Manly.

What do I wear?

All participants will be given a race bib, wristband, ankle timing tag and swimming cap in their Race Pack. Participants must wear these items and carry their goggles from the start to the finish. You can wear running attire throughout the run leg and will be able to leave your running gear at the transition area while swimming. Please note flippers, wetsuits, and hand paddles are not permitted for the swim leg, tri suits will be permitted.

How does the transition area work?

The transition area will be located at Mid Curl Curl beach car park off Griffin Road (preferred) OR at the grass area outside Queenscliff Surf Club (contingency). Participants are to find their section relevant to their allocated bib number. Once you have completed your swim, please proceed back to the transition area to collect your belongings and start the second leg of your run. Participants must cross the Finish Line with their bib visible.

Am I allowed support crew?

Participants are not permitted to have any support crew for the event.

What time am I required to be at the Start Line?

Participants must be at the Start Area from 6:45 am and enter their allocated Start Pens by 7:05 am. Please listen for announcements and follow instructions for how to enter the Start Pen.

Do I need a Pre-Qualification time?

There will be no Pre-Qualification time required however to meet course cut off times, you need to complete the Aquathlon course in 90 minutes.

What if the water/surf conditions are dangerous on race morning?

The Race Committee will conduct a conditions assessment on the morning of the event. If the surf conditions are too dangerous at North Curl Curl (preferred), participants will then be redirected to swim at Queenscliff Beach (contingency). In the event of the swim leg being cancelled at both beaches, participants will complete the 7km run instead. There will be no refund of entry fees and the event will not be re-run. A decision will be made ASAP on race day and broadcast via this website and social media platforms.
