Organizer's website

We welcome participants of all ages and abilities from the community and strive to meet the needs of everyone involved. We always provide free places for carers and where possible provide accessible parking opportunities. Any profits made from our activities are reinvested into the business each year to keep running costs down to a minimum wherever possible. We encourage volunteering with us to develop work experience, learn new skills and make new friends.

What’s Included

Special prizes for each category 1st, 2nd & 3rd male and female runners. Chip timed. This is a Scottish Athletics Permitted Event.

Course Details

10K Walk:

The 10k walks goes through beautiful scenery Including Cramond Village,River Almomd Walkway ,Dalmeny Estate Laureston Castle and along the Silverknowes Foreshore.

Toddle:

The toddle is for children 6 years or younger. Infants and toddlers in buggies are welcome. Medals, goody Bags and completion certificate for all toddlers.

Travel

The event will take place at Silverknowes Promenade in Edinburgh, located on the beach, about twenty minutes from the city center.

Volunteers

As a volunteer with Great Scottish Events your journey starts with an invitation to an open day before the challenge, to learn all about what lies ahead – the different roles available, and the skills and personalities we are looking for. We are ideally looking to work with volunteers on a longer term basis – and we have many exciting and varied challenges and plenty of opportunities throughout the year to become involved with us.

What sort of roles are available?
The role you will be placed in on the walks will very much depend on your preference and also any previous experience – however a challenge of this nature is dynamic, fast moving and you might be given a number of different roles during the event – these can range from:

  • Pre and Post Event – help with set up, pack goodie bags, set up the Charity Festival and assist in final clear up.
  • Pace walkers & Marshalls – along the route in support of our runners/walkers.
  • Finish line cheerers – handing out medals, goody bags and hugs!
  • Drivers – and mini buses for sets of tired legs and volunteers!
  • Medics / Nurses – fixing feet, massaging muscles, holding hands
  • Hospitality staff – looking after rest stops – looking after walkers
  • Charity Marquee staff – help keep tidy and support stallholders
  • Timing & tracking team – logging times using our tech equipment at rest stops
  • Entertainment – Musicians, bands or choirs who would like to be involved to create a Christmas atmosphere
  • Much, much, more!

FAQs

What sort of food is provided on the day?

All water is fully included in your registration fee at manned check points and on completion of your event you will be given a goody bag containing water /juice snacks etc. The onsite catering will be mixed, varied , delicious and plentiful with calorific intake a priority – from soups, pasta, salads, etc. at very reasonable prices.
