The Longhorn is back!

Choose 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon or 60k Ultra set in private areas of Sherwood Forest & the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Park; next to a Grade1 listed 19th Century country house in north Nottinghamshire; Thoresby Hall.

Running over old military roads, cleared tracks through ancient woodland and grassed paths around the country estate. The route includes a few hills to offer a small challenge around the course in the most scenic countryside & forest. The elevation is noted on the downloadable course map. The course has very firm hard ground if dry (2015) but if we get rain (or snow!) then there can also be considerable amount of muddy areas to run through (2016).

I did the 5k as my first race back after having my baby in July 2017 so I was a little bit nervous but this was such a fantastic event that I've signed up for the marathon in 2019! The organisation was great, the event village was buzzing and there was such a supportive vibe.

I opted for the half Marathon for this race and it didn’t disappoint. Taking you through some lovely trails in the beautiful Sherwood Forest. If you are prone to insect bites I would pop some repellent on as the horse flies loved me on route. Feed stations are great, well stocked aid stations with very friendly volunteers.  Expo was a nice size with hot and cold food. Post-race massage also available. Will I do this race again? HELL YES!! Well done SBR, grat event

My second time completing the Longhorn as a canicross entry, last year I did the 5k and this year I upped it to 10k, which meant a completely different route. This route took us on parts of the Thoresby estate which are normally private and inaccessible to the public, There was a good mixture of paved paths, trail and grass, all with gorgeous scenery. It was beautiful warm weather so the dogs kept stopping to drink from puddles, which was fine, but there was plenty of water for them, as well as us runners, at several points en route. At the first checkpoint my dog was VERY excited to be given a cocktail sausage by the marshall. All the marshalls were very smiley and encouraging and there was a friendly vibe throughout the race.In terms of facilities, the parking was only a short walk from the race start/finish, there were plenty of portaloos and there were separate start times for canicross entries which I thought was a definite improvement on last year - my dog was very giddy. At the end I enjoyed a coffee and cake from The Little Sunshine Van as well as the free banana, crisps and water in the goody bag. I paid extra to get a tshirt, and like how this is optional) and the medal was very nice too. Also, great free photos were available and a certificate is emailed to all finishers.

This was my first time at Longhorn, i only decided on the Saturday that i would make the effort to do the 10k and i was so pleased i did.I have participated in many events over the years and this was my first time with SBR, i have to say the organisation was spot on, really helpful staff at the registration tent, not just to me but the help they gave others whilst i completed my paperwork was impressive. the course marshalls were also plentiful, full of enthusiasm and support.i have also been trying hard to encourage my kids into running and thought the prospect of a bit of bling at the end might work. they loved it. i entered my wife and 3 of the kids into the 5k and they have enthused about it ever since.so a thumbs up, not just from me but the rest of the family too

I booked the race for my sonand myself. It's a local race for me. From the instructions for the day,  to getting there and registering was so easy. The bag drop was fab. The one real comment was the race briefing was hard to hear as I it was a little muffled. The route this year was just shy of 5k but I know that there was a flooding issue. The marshalls and supporters were fantastic. Will definitely be back. I may even try the half next time.......
