What you need to know

Situated on the world famous Antrim Coast Road you will find Ballygally beach, nestled under the Sallagh Braes and home to the historic Ballygally Castle. Views of the infamous North channel and the Mull of Kintyre will meet you as you stand ready for a running beach start and a day of endurance, courtesy of Force 12 events.

No one can dispute the beauty of the Antrim Coast, an area steeped in history, culture and myth... but truly unforgiving for the unprepared.

The White Bear is a tough triathlon and will without a doubt test you. The nature of this triathlon will present challenging open water swimming conditions, a relentless cycling route and a gradually ascending run that concludes with a descent through the Sallagh Braes unveiling spectacular views and the sound of applause from a fantastic local community when you cross the finish line at the White Bear.

Where does registration take place?

  • Ballygally community hall for all distances (262 Coast Road, BallyGally, BT40 2QX)

NB To register for a team entry, only one person’s details are needed. We will get in touch by email to confirm teammates’ registrations.

Course Details

Race cut-off times:

Half Swim: 1 hours

Half Bike: 5 hours

Half Run: 3.5 hours

Will there be any CPs with food and water? 

Absolutely, infact we are determined to help you put on weight. We will have home made cakes as well as other goodies to assist you around the course

Full/Half CPs:

Transition – Glenarm – Waterfoot – Cargan – Broughshane – Knockdhu – Killyglen Road


Can I park nearby? 

Yes their are multiple car parks. Please do not park where cones are placed and respect the local community by not blocking driveways.


We have some fantastic accommodation in Ballygally and in surrounding villages to suit all budgets. Just let the accommodation know you are part of the WBTri for extra Bacon at breakfast LOL.

Our local waters are known for being chilly all year round.

We swim here regularly and understand the challenges related to the temperatures. With this in mind the attached are marked as compulsory or advisory.

Swim distance may decrease depending on race day temperature testing.

Wetsuit compulsory (consider investing in a winter suit)

Swim cap compulsory (supplied by Force 12 events)

The locals amoung you will know that the mist can roll in very quickly especially in the Glens. For those travelling from afar please take our word for it, the visibilty can decrease rapidly. With this in mind please include the following with your bike when competing in the Full and Half distance discipline.

Hi viz vest/armband  compulsory (incase of low viz)

Front and rear light compulsory (incase of low viz)


Drink to thirst, be aware of your required levels of hydration, its a fine balance, just don’t over or under do it. Nutrition is key, please build this in to your training regime for the best results on race day.

​Head torch compulsory for Full and Half distance 

Hi viz vest/armband compulsory


All entries will receive:

  • Finishers medal (if you finish)

  • T shirt and sponsors spot prize goodies

  • Branded Swim cap

  • CPs loaded with all the fuel you need 

  • Race chip Sport Ident dibber (GPS for Full/Half)

  • Safety and Paramedic led medical support


-Cycle helmets must be worn 

-No draughting no matter how tempting 

-Pick up all litter and leave no trace 

-No ear phones on cycling or running route, roads will not be closed to traffic 

-Please dismount in areas signposted 

-Be courteous to our team members, they are their to help you succeed

Are athletes allowed to use support crews? 

For the HALF and FULL distance tri support teams are permitted. 


Force 12 take the safety of all of our support team and competitors very seriously. The team also happen to be registered paramedics and serving members of the emergency services helping us to provide excellent medical and safety cover.

​As a competitor you will be assured that we will be using TrailMed Ltd who will provide Paramedic Practitioner led medical cover as well as a team of Paramedics and First Aiders both on the beach and out on the route. 

You as the competitor simply need to focus on the race, let us manage the rest. 

A full water rescue team will also be in attendance with a drone overhead to keep a good eye on you. Warming facilities are situated on the beach should they be required along with tea and coffee facilities.
