The Ultra Trail of Faroe is a 65km ultra-marathon in the Faroe Islands. Race across jagged ridges and rolling green mountains in the Faroe Islands first international ultra marathon. This ultra-trail of Faroe Islands will start in the rural settlement of Leynar and finish in the grass roofed town of Tjørnuvík, on the islands of Streymoy.
The first ever running, adventure & music-based festival to be held on the Faroe Islands, this invigorating adventure combines high-octane activities such as trail running, rock climbing, kayaking and mountaineering with an exquisitely remote setting. Marooned in the North Atlantic Ocean in between Norway and Iceland, the Faroe Islands provide a dramatic backdrop to the exhilarating activities of Útilív Adventure Festival. The first ever running, adventure & music-based festival to be held on the Faroe Islands, this invigorating adventure combines high-octane activities such as trail running, surfing, sea-kayaking, hiking, and packrafting with an exquisitely remote setting.
Either side of the 13km, 21km, 42km and 65km trail runs, you’ll have access to pre- and post-raceparties, adventure film screenings, local Faroese cuisine—think cinnamon rolls and the freshest seafood you’ve ever tasted—among other epic adventures. Hike nature trails peppered with knife-edge ridges and awe-inspiring waterfalls; run ancient paths between remote farms, peaks and lakes; and immerse yourself in a line-up of inspirational talks & adventure films.
Throughout the weekend, local guides are on hand to organise adventure activities ranging from self-guided and guided hikes to packrafting, wild swims, kayaking & surfing. Sustainability is at the beating heart of the festival, which features a communal beach clean in partnership with a local charity Ringras and talks and films that focus on environmental issues and outdoor adventures

Must be worn:
Short or long sleeve base layer top (NO COTTON)
Shorts or tights
Mountain/ Trail running shoes – must have suitable tread
Must be worn or carried:
Waterproof jacket with taped seams
Waterproof trousers with taped seams
Spare Long Sleeved Base Layer Top (NO COTTON).
Hat or buff
GPS device (Smartphone will suffice) and/or Map & Compass.
First aid kit
Suitable race Vest, Race Pack.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a bag drop?
At registration you will be given a label for any kit you want to be taken to the finish line. You must hand this in to bag drop at the start, and it will be transported to the finish line for you. Please limit this to one small rucksack/hold all only.
What are the adventure activities available?
Kayaking, Surfing, Longboarding, Hiking, Guided trail running, Coasteering & Rock Climbing. These will range from 2-5 hours in duration and will be available to book online in January 2018. Please note, your race/festival ticket doesn’t include access to these activities, and they do need to be booked separately.Are they safe/
The adventures are run by professional instructors who have their own insurance. The activities are safe if participants listen to the rules and guidelines explained by the instructors prior to each activity. Participants should have their own relevant travel insurance which covers adventure activities.
Marooned in the North Atlantic ocean, 100km south of Iceland, lies the Faroe Islands. A jigsaw of 18 islands, which will form the backdrop for the Útilív Adventure Festival - a weekend of trail running, music, and parties.
