  • Did the Gran Fondo Sportive in 2018

I absolutely loved this race, it was a super flat, fast course with closed roads. I got a PB for the distance and qualified for the World Champs!
  • Did the Gran Fondo Sportive in 2018

Great day, great atmosphere, really enjoyed it
  • Did the Gran Fondo Race in 2018

Very well organised, closed road gran fondo with a real race feel (in the race as opposed to sportive). Top class standard of riders in the race waves (>40km/h ) Could do with better water distribution for the riders who don't stop at the stations.

  • Did the Standard in 2018

Race brief was very quiet. Did not hear a thing crammed into that small room. The queues for the toilet were timely. The marshalls were rubbish. One even told me to pull in and finish after 2 laps even though I was doing the standard. Which cost me time. Nobody was at the finish line. I had to rummage around for my own medal and cup of water at the end. I was then told to hurry up and get my kit nd bike out the transition area as the marshalls have had an incredibly long difficult day and want to go home.
  • Did the event in 2018

ATW always put on great events and this was no different. Well organised and in a great location. The swim being in Stewartby Lake (1 lap for the sprint, 2 for standard) was clean and warm, slightly choppy from the wind and rain but nothing too bad to complain about. A short run into transition before heading out onto the flattest and easiest bike route you'll likely ride. You simply can't go wrong on this course as you ride from the lake out to the main road then ride up to a roundabout, turn around then ride back down the ride to another roundabout, turn around and back up to other roundabout again, simple! 2 laps for the sprint and 4 for standard. Back into transition for the run, watch out for stones on the road/path as you run in if you're bare foot or shoeless before you move onto the grass to the transition area and head out for the run which is a nice flat route (1 lap sprint and 2 for standard) through the Marston Forest trails. As a fairly low key event the finish was basically a help yourself to a medal, banana and cup of water.

  • Did the Sprint Distance in 2018

Good event and nice venue but the run course was no where near as long as it was supposed to be and directions weren't entirely clear which caused a bit of confusion. Overall a great day though!
  • Did the event in 2018

Lovely lake and setting. Good, fast cycle route but the run was short of the 10k possibily due to a confusion near the circuit end. The run route also had a tricky path that challenged manners of oncoming runners. Also, I'm not on facebook so didn't see the pdf or get a race brief before hand. Maybe admin might email out for next year? I'll definitely do it again though.
  • Did the event in 2017

gosfield lake triathlon is run by the born2tri team. They have run this event for a few years and have it organised very well. Parking is not on site, it is in the local playing field well signposted, marshalled and a short 300 ish m walk to the lake. Registration is slick and well organised transition is wel marshalled and easy to navigate. They have a bag drop tent which helps when your a lone competitor so you have access to your belongings before the race finishes and transition opens for bike removal.  Race start this year was via a beach start style lining in up in corresponding time zones based upon your 100m time. Previously it had been a start in the water. This was the only issue for me as the actual start area was very narrow and once over the timing mat you were held up slightly. Over than that the swim is good and easy to navigate as 2 laps for the Olympic distance one for the sprint. The bike is two laps of the surrounding countryside on quite roads so not much traffic. The course is two laps for Olympic one for sprint it is quick however there is one hill per lap that gets you!  The run is out into countryside passed the golf club, part trails part farmers track and again two laps for Olympic and one for sprint. This is mostly a traffic free run. There are 2 water stations that are well marshalled. Could do with gells at one of them probably a luxury request rather than anything else! Into the finish line and done great setting, organisation, well signposted and marshalled. This race is on my calendar every year

  • Did the Sprint in 2018

There was just an area on the bike run where the roundabout to turn left to Box End didn't feel it was clearly enough with the marshall standing on the middle of the roundabout. Also after there were signs but with two events on wasn't sure if I was going the right way.
  • Did the Sprint in 2018

Enjoyed it. the waterski ramps on the swim added a bit of focus but tgis just seemed to spready people out so the bumps and bangs didn't happen. Well marshalled bike and I just loved the run across country. great run out, thanks.

Inaugural running of this event but hope it’s here to stay. Online registration easy and good value for money with option to buy a t-shirt, which I took up given uniqueness of having an event in a small home village. Grabbing number and bag check very straightforward especially given not a huge event. Good briefing and warm up and then off along beautiful course across Ditton meadows and along river with 2 crossings. Good support at finish, medal and water for bargain price.Would definitely recommend. Please note the footpaths are not closed but regular running routes so you are mixing with non competitors like some park runs but people are aware with very good marshalling. Also the lock requires climbing steps to cross the river and there are 3 gates on the return but not a problem and still a fast run. Minor quibble that the course seemed a little shorter than 5 miles but easily fixed with a lap of the recreation ground.Great cause for new pavilion and bbq and ice creams looked great. As a local would highly recommend the village pubs for food and refreshment.

I have raced the 10k at this event every year since it started and it is a lovely flat and fast 10k  around the disused Waterbeach barracks airfield. This is definately a course where you could chase a PB due to the complete lack of elevation change and nice wide sweeping corners. As a result of the course you are on your own with just the other runners and the occasional marshall for company, but there is no chance of getting lost unless you decide to venture off the road!Water is provided at half way and a medal at the end. There are a number of shorter races, including a 100m race for toddlers which is great fun and I was able to accompany my three year old on his first ever running race which was great. All of the money raised from the event goes to support a local pre-school which is also nice.

  • Did the event in 2018

I ran the quarter marathon and the race was SO good. It was part pavement and part trail through fields. The event was very well organised and everything ran like clockwork. There was an excellent group warm-up beforehand and the general race atmosphere was so friendly and happy. The route was really well signposted and the marshals were extremely helpful and encouraging. The locals were very supportive, some of them out in their front gardens cheering us all on. The Scouts and Brownies at the water stations were brilliant.Afterwards we could help ourselves to bottled water, fruit and cereal bars and they were much needed after such a warm and humid run. Flaming June indeed! The race medals are really fab too.I’ll definitely be running this one again next year, and maybe it’ll be the half next time!Huge thanks to everyone involved in the organisation of this event and to all the volunteers and spectators. You’re all marvellous.I can’t recommed this event enough. Loved it!
  • Did the event in 2017

I have completed the 10K Bonfire Burn numerous times and always found it a nice, well organised race so I thought I'd give the half marathon a go. I found it to be just as well organised. Prior to the race, number collection was quick and simple. I didn't use the bag drop but there didn't appear to be any queues for it. And there was a nice, fun warm up! There was then a bit of a walk to the start, but as everyone walked over together there was a good atmosphere as we walked. The race then started in 2 waves with a 5 minute gap between the waves. This worked really well and there didn't seem to be any bunching up as people seem to have chosen the correct waves. The course is a multi-terrain course being a mixture of pavement and country pathways, thanks to the nice weather we've had recently the pathways were nice and solid. It's a nice flat course through the beautiful Cambridge countryside, this was a blessing as one part of the course is a dead straight section alongside the guided busway which would be mind-numbing if it wasn't for the lovely scenery. My tip for this section, look left and right lots on this section! You make your way back to Histon and end the race with a lap of the playing field, which gives you a good little burst right at the end with all the support there. I personally didn't use the aid stations as I was wearing a hydration pack but they seemed to be well stocked with water and well spaced apart. What really made the race for me was the support from both the local community and all of the volunteers. The marshals were really enthusiastic and motivating, and there were so many of them that I nearly lost my voice saying 'thank you marshal' to them all. But I'll say it again here, thank you! On completion of the race you are given a medal and a good quality technical t shirt. I thoroughly enjoyed this race from start to finish and will definitely be back to race it again.

GoFeral OCR 2019

We love doing Obstacle Course Races; our favorites are those that we have done with our children, families and friends. We set ourselves the task of designing and delivering a race which is challenging enough to satisfy all, yet achievable for anyone that is willing to have a go!

Obstacle Course Races are supposed to be fun- you get to do all sorts of things you're not supposed to do! Getting outside and crawling around in the mud or climbing over a wall and doing so with a big grin on your face is what we are going back to; this our inaugural 5K race was all about having FUN!

There are obstacles- some made by us, some created by the natural terrain, all designed with inclusivity in mind. If you don't fancy one, there are be routes that bypass and shortcut for the less experienced racer.

Based at a private Cambridgeshire countryside Estate, the largely flat terrain has some great features that we will be making the most of from fields and ditches to woods and shallow ponds. You will be sure to get wet!

  • Did the event in 2018

The race took place on the hottest day of the year so far! A winter of training in horrible weather left me dramatically unprepared for the heat but luckily it was my first race representing #visorclub and the visor was very much appreciated. The start location had plenty of loos for the number of racers and registration was very quick. A short race briefing (watch out for snakes and deer!) and we were off. The route took us along the Little Ouse through Thetford until CP2 (turn around for the half marathon) when we went off into Thetford forest for 3-4miles and then back along the river into Brandon and the turn around point. The course was great with lovely running along the side of the river and through the forest although a number of people got lost (myself included!). Most of the people who got lost missed a turn off which wasn't marked (luckily I got to it as someone was retracing their steps having run a mile out of their way!). I managed to get lost at about 21 miles making the decision to turn right when the route carried straight ahead (no idea why, probably the heat!) so added a mile onto my total. The checkpoints (7 in total) were stocked with fruit, crisps, sweets and gels as well as lots of water, squash and coke. I couldn't face much in the way of food (I only had some carrot sticks at mile 20!) but there was plenty of fluids on offer which was important given the heat.At the finish there was a big medal and more water waiting for me as well as my four year old cheering me over the line as he had commandeered the PA system for the finish!A great day even if it was longer than planned and much slower than hoped for! I'll be back next year to make sure I do a better job next time!

I first ran this in 2009 as my first marathon, and wanted to try it again in 2016.The course is beautiful, through the Essex countryside, and through a few villages. It's pretty hilly too (especially between miles 20-22, its a looooooooong hill). The route is a kind of figure of 8, and theres a good place for any supporters where you can catch the runners three times. 2016 was also incredibly hot. Less than two weeks before it had been snowing, but it was 28 degrees on teh day (more like 33 on the tarmac) and although there isn't much support, those that were there were fantastic, and the best bit was the home owners hosing the runners down - we needed it! The marshalls are really supportive, the organisation is really good (and there is plenty of parking) and the medal and t-shirt combo is awesome, I run in the t-shirt a lot! I'd definitely run this again (and I am in 2017)

Good event, simple but slightly cheaper than others around so would come back again next year. Did everything right.
  • Did the event in 2017

Really friendly event, logistics were really easy due to location of hotel & transition. Swim was decent (bit smelly but it's nature) warned on briefing about part of road being broken up so I took the first lap easy(ish) as I wasn't Sure where this was so I was over cautious! (If they new about it maybe posts a warning sign 50 metres before.run course was great except for the little single track just after the water station is a little narrow (it's a squeeze to get past someone) overall it was a great event and I'd happily do it again!!

  • Did the event in 2017

Raced this event several times now, it's the perfect season opener. Good location with parking, swim is in the rowing lake, which at about 4ft deep so not too cold for the time of year, also giving the nervous swimmers the confidence that they can stand up. Grassed transition area with enough room. Being from West Yorkshire the bike route is flat, :-) but for the rest it's just a little undulating, good route once you get off the main roads, although road surface can be a bit rough in places (2 punctures this year!)  Run is around the lake with a combination of surfaces, again flat.Facilities are good, you can also use the rowing club showers, which is brill when you have a 2 hour drive home. Event is well organised, marshal's are super helpful and plenty of them, bike course especially.Goodie Bag, one of the best. with great T-shirt and best looking medal you'll ever get!
  • Did the event in 2017

This was my second time participating in the monster mojito triathlon and it is a great event. I entered it originally due to the value for money, as one of the best priced standard distance races around. It is however very well organised event with a great out and back swim course which is great for beginners as avoids too much contact with other swimmers. The run course is also lovely and scenic.
  • Did the event in 2017

A well organised event with plenty of marshalls to help at all key areas/points.  The bike and run courses were excellent, well signed and clear to follow.only things I would criticise would be:1. the amount of weed in the lake, you were dragging it up as you swam, and got it all in your face etc as you went along!2. The medal has no reference on it to what event it was, where or when - this should be included as they are hard earnt and you feel proud to receive it, but if you go back to look at it in the future you would not know where it came from! (I know it is on the ribbon, i would like to see it on the actual medal please!)My wife came and spectated and thought the layout was excellent as she could easily see me exit the water, in transition, leave and return on the bike then see me several times on the run and at the finish.i would definiely consider doing more Monster events in the future!

Fast flat course - runners paradise with C&C and Cambridge Tri amongst others training there in the winter and plenty of width.

New configuration is great with a long run in to the finish.

Of course, we must also mention that runners are then presented with the famous HBO 10k technical t-shirt the colour of which is a close guarded secret each year until race day!

The race is a real community effort with support from local companies offering sponsorship and local villagers giving up their day to help set-up, marshal and take down after the event. As always, a big thank you goes out to all runners, volunteers and sponsors that make this event so special!

For years I have heard great thing about the Hatfield Broad Oak 10k but never got round to doing it.  I have to say I now know why it comes highly recommended. Undulating but with a great pb potential due to the nice decline on the last mile. Lovely scenic course and generally a great celebration of the village. I will definitely be adding this to my annual race diary in the future.

This was to be my first 100k and I'm glad I picked SVP. It's a small race, but so very well organised. The aid stations have everything you could want, the melon and pineapple was delicious. The route is superbly marked too and all the helpers are superb. There is plenty of support on the route, especially the pub around Sudbury. The only negative is that due to it's nature (point to point) logistics can be a nightmare if you don't have someone to drop you back to where you left your car!!Overall though I would recommend this one. It's a tough course, but with lots of runable sections.

A superb ultra marathon through beautiful countryside the SVP100 provides something for everybody. Often ultra runners are too quick to step up to the holy grail of a 100 miles and forget that there really are some cracking 100km events out there and this is one of them. Whether you choose to use this as your 'Big Race' for the year or as a 'stepping stone' for those longer ultras it will provide a challenge .95% on trail, the course winds it's way from Newmarket to Manningtree with 7 aid stations along the route for tired and hungry runners to refuel and rehydrate. The event goes in two waves with the slower runners starting at 7am and then the speedier ones going for the prizes at 9am. This works really well I find and ensures that you see plenty of fellow competitors throughout the day.The surfaces are varied as you'd expect from a trail race, including fields, paths, hills, with a fair share of nettles and brambles to keep it interesting and livestock to negotiate as well. The route is excellent however I would strongly recommend either using GPS or ensure that you are a decent map reader. The wonderful volunteers at SVP do try their best to mark out the route and their are the waymarker signs to help you, but there are a few tricky places where it is possible to get lost if you aren't paying attention to the arrows spray painted on the floor.Other than this the event runs smoothly from start to finish, and the atmosphere is fantastic. It is also spectator friendly with access to all the aid stations as well as several villages and pubs on route that supporters could stop at. All in all if you are considering running a 100km event then I suggest giving this one a go... you won't regret it!

Excellent race organised by a lovely young chap. Good check points which are well manned and stocked, requires self navigation.Stunning views, sweeper runners to ensure safely of last runners. One of the best races you'll find in the UK.
