This half-marathon is not for the faint-hearted.......literally!  It's pretty uppy-downy so you're being worked hard pretty much the whole way round. There is an abundant supply of marshals and locals come out to cheer you on as well. The only suggested improvements I have is regarding the water stations.  Water was provided in plastic cups - I find it extremely hard to drink from cups while running and generally have to stop, consume the water from the cup, then restart.  I did see some squeezy bottle energy drinks at the final station but they did not appear to be readily available/visible at the other stations.I also think the final water station should be positioned nearer the top of the hill.  I really felt rather faint by the time I got to the top of the hill and then I had to run a good 400m before reaching the water station.Having finally completed the race there was water available but it was only when I specifically requested an energy drink that a marshal rummaged into a box and pulled out a 2l bottle of coke.  The course is hard going so the energy drinks should be readily available.Having said all that I had a great run yesterday and I'm sure I'll be back again in 2019.  Thank you!

This was my first time doing the Canterbury Half Marathon. I really should check out courses before signing up! This was much hillier than I expected. Not sure how they managed it, but pretty sure there were more up hills than down hills!Fantastic marshals, plenty of water stations, great local support, beautiful country side, could've done without the lovely farm smells. Really found it to be a well organised and challenging race. Great views and plenty of walking up hills opportunities to take photos. Loved the medal and snacks at th end. Thanks!

If you've ever fancied running through orchards of apples and pears together with the waft of gently drying hops, the Canterbury Half Marathon could be the one for you.  But you'll need to be breathing in deeply - very deeply; 'cos those hills are gonna hurt. Its described as a lolipop route with a shared 4 mile section : upward gradient followed by steep downhill on the way out and reversed on the way back.  In between you'll find picturesque Kentish villages, wooded roads and hills. My first fault is with myself for underestimating the terrain and my speed going out.  Too much too soon.  My second is with the water stations - too many loose plastic cups strewn across the lane for 100 yards.  Please consider an alternative means of delivery or consider bins after the feed station.  My third is with fellow runners dropping cups, bottles and gel wrappers in out beautiful countryside.  I know you're racing but that's no excuse to litter.Otherwise, this is a thoroughlly enjoyable half marathon.  I was glad to see it held on a Bank Holiday Monday (rhather than a Sunday) and gave me the ideal opportunity to pop over from Hampshire to see my parents.

St George’s Day Marathon

We never seem to celebrate St Georges Day the same way that the other nations do that form the United Kingdom. So to do our little bit to rectify this and so that we can all celebrate being English or celebrate the English way of life we're going to have a very small "English" marathon where we can show a bit of English pride!

The theme is going to be red and white and we encourage all runners and helpers to wear these colours (its not compulsory but would be appreciated), military, St George, Dragons, Knights Templars, that kind of thing. English! Fancy dress, an England shirt, anything like that! We're going to have an English style aid station, (in addition to the usual goodies that we provide!!) and a medal that is going to be the pride of your collection! It's going to be huge and functional...

SVN Charity Challenge

Each event is a six hour Challenge Event. Run as many or as few laps as you wish in the time limit. With a timed event, as long as you complete one lap, then you are an official finisher!

The course runs around the tarmac cycle track but at no point crosses it so there are no traffic concerns to worry about. The surface is a high quality gravel surface in the main with the odd patch of potentially muddy bits if they're wet but overall it's an excellent running surface and should produce some fast times.

There are slopes rather than hills, so its not totally flat, each loop has maybe 100 feet of elevation rise, but there are some lovely woods to run through, ponds, grasslands, wet lands and some wild life to spot too! If its wet there might be a chance of some mud but the trails are high quality and drain well.

I ran this race in 2017 at the last minute - attracted by a very unique wooden medal advertised by the organisers! A lovely little village 5k, through the woods and fields around the village of Bridge. It starts with a fairly hefty incline, which takes you up into the woods - mind the tree roots! Well marshalled, with volunteers in key areas to direct and advise you of trip hazards. We were lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day for the race, and it was a great atmosphere between entrants, lots of mutual support. The race finishes with a lap of the field before crossing the finish, where we received the unique medal, and a goody bag including a technical t-shirt. A great little off-road race, would be great to have a 10k option too!

We have had great feedback from runners, not only relating to the experience but also regarding the medal and marshalling. The event was covered on local news. Further information, pictures and results are available on the results page. The race raised lots of money for good causes and we are set to do the same this year. As always we work constructively on feedback and extend a big thank you as always to you for supporting the event, as well as to our sponsors.

I’ve done this race three times now and I’ve always found it wonderfully friendly and well organised. There isn’t a huge turnout of support, but there’s a smattering of folk all along the front, and a good gaggle at the end, and the marshals are lovely. There are plenty of them even though it’s impossible to go off route, which feels nice. Some people think the route is dull - it’s straight along the promenade for 5k, then back - but I love running along the sea front, and enjoy the lack of hills, navigation and traffic. Thoroughly recommended.

This is my local race so time I competed. OK its only 10km but a nice route through Kent villages and a good few hundred participants. A short hill at the start quickly sorts out the runners and a midway field crossing tests your balance a little. Basic medal and goodie bag but run by local rotary group so all for a good cause.

The Tenterden 10k & 5k

A lovely countryside race starting in Tenterden. This event offers a choice of 5k or 10k distance starting at St. Michael's Primary School. The route uses some of the country lanes around the area before returning to the school for the finish. This is a great new event with loads of activities for the whole family too.

Kids fun runs and activities, food, drinks, refreshments, bouncy castle and local craft stalls - it's the event that's also like a Summer fete!!!

I signed up online with ease and you can view full race instructions from the website.I read the instructions the night before and noted that there were two different parking locations listed that were quite far from St Michaels School where the race registration was. We drove to both locations and they were both quite far considering we had two young children in tow. We ended up parking in a side road not far from st Michaels School.Upon arrival at the school on race day I was guided to the main hall for registration and bib/chip collection. I was about 50 minutes before race start time and I was expecting a big queue but was pleasantly surprised when there was no queue and I was handed bib/chip straightaway - done. In the school ground there was a small fete type thinking going on. It’s a smallish primary school so not massive grounds but they had some PTA type stalls and the kids were kept busy on the tombolla, lucky dip and bouncy castle etc. Before the 5 and 10k started they did a children’s 1k race (7 laps of School field). I thought this was a great idea, £3 per child and entry on day only and they all got a medal. It was a short walk to start line which was on a residential road. The 5 and 10k started at the same time. The route was fairly quiet residential roads and then country lanes 5k ran out 2.5k then turned and returned to the finish I believe. 10k we carried on past the 5k turn point to a water only station (bottles) at the 5k halfway point, ran a loop around the vineyard and headed back the way we came. The course was pretty hilly and was a humid day so probably not a PB course (not for me anyway

this was my first time doing this event you start on a running track which is different and it’s a mix of roads and trial there’s a choice of a 10km half and full marathon I really enjoyed it the water stations were spread out and I liked that they had sponges on the course which I haven’t seen at many races the medal was a great medal and it’s nice running around the country lanes and I would do it again the marshals were great and the finish in the stadium was nice

This is an out and back route with sea on one side and a nature reserve on the other. Very flat, with water just over half way. Very supportive marshals.
  • Did the event in 2018

2nd race of the summer series, and well organised. The course starts at the yacht club and follows a path along the nature reserve, out for 5km then turn and back. The course is flat and tarmac all the way, with a beautiful sunset if the weather is right! The organisers moved the water station from the halfway point to around 2.5/7.5km to ensure runners were well hydrated on a hot day. Nice little race, good PB potential.
  • Did the event in 2017

This race is a very flat out and back course,on tarmac, with a few VERY gentle rises that catch your muscles out!Registration is easy online, or turn up and pay a bit extra on the night. Either way picking up your numbers on the night is quick and easy. There's ample of free parking very near by also. The out and back route takes you out to the mouth of Rye Harbour, then along the seafront next to the nature reserve. Once you reach Winchelsea Beach it's time to turn around and head back. There's a water station at the Mary Stanford Lifeboat House, which you pass twice. Some jelly babies would have gone down very well here!Once you've crossed the finish you get to have some water & biscuits after picking up your medal. If you've run this course before it wouldn't be any more exciting, and if its windy it's horrible, but it makes a very good race and good for pb's (which I got!) . I'd certainly do this race again, and would definitely recommend it.

Amazing!! Totally beautiful XC course for the run and a fab bike course. The venue is stunning and the marshalls/officials were fantastic - really friendly and helpful. The run was tough but on a sunny autumn day was breathtaking! Bike was windy but well signed and a great ride.goodie bag was great and I was lucky enough to come 2nd lady so got an awesome slate trophy. My one gripe was that on the run course the volunteers weren’t great at handing out refreshments - nothing major as they were there.

The 14th Rye Summer Classic Series 5K Race Three – September

The Rye Summer Classic Series is a popular series of three Friday evening events and in 2018 returns for a 14th year. Featuring two 10k races and a season-ending final 5k. Tonight's race is a fast and flat 10k.

The route is a traffic free road, out and back course through the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The course is accurately measured, fast and flat and, if the weather is fine, a perfect opportunity for a PB.

Suitable for experienced runners and beginners alike, the event also includes a Children's Race.

This accurately-measured course is a fast and flat, out and back route along the paved paths of the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. When conditions are favourable, it can make for some fast times - but, be prepared, it can be windy!
