  • Did the event in 2018

Great location. out of the boat lift area and then onto a looped course. Very pretty.Cheeky hill up to the finish area which i'd forgot about.Good medal, make sure you pay for parking. I'd do it again
  • Did the event in 2018

Only remembering when getting into Northwich that I didn’t have any money with me for parking my friend was scrambling round in her bag for change lol I’d already felt disappointed that parking fee wasn’t included in the entry fee. Although I found somewhere else to park near to the boat lift. Walking toward the boat lift there was little signage directing into registration and the start from outside of the facility. We made it in the end though and registration was fast.  The course was beautiful and extremely warm and I was soon loving the run. Marshall’s where lovely and very encouraging. Hoping this event will get bigger and better this being the first one. The goody bag had sweets , cake and chocolate which soon was eaten but I honestly didn’t expect much with the entry fee being so cheap.Well done for a great event !

  • Did the event in 2018

Run Heaton was an undulating, multi-lap race which had 5k, 10k and Half Marathon options.
Parking, baggage and number collection were all effortless.
Half marathon distance consisted of a partial loop, followed by 3 full laps. Heaton Park is a beautiful setting for a race. Paths were good for running on, although the 2x significant hills on each lap, make it a nice challenge.
Water station was on each lap, so approximately every 3miles.
Marshals were absolutely brilliant, as were the small but enthusiastic support.
Finishers received a decent medal, flap jack, banana ect.
There was also a FREE post-race massage option and FREE photographs.
    In summary-
Well organised, well marshalled, friendly race and good value.
Free massage & photos was an unexpected bonus.
The course is quite challenging but not too bad.
I'd certainly do this race again.

    Hilly with views to match
    Registration was super fast.
    Race briefing was fine.
Route was well marked. Scenery was brilliant.
2018 was dry but very windy - very glad of the mandatory kit to be honest.
Mixed terrain so need to select shoes for that.
    Challenging and rewarding course.
    Marshalls were excellent.
T-shirt, medal and a bowl of chilli at the finish.
    I’d recommend this race.

now this is not a race for the faint hearted. running snowdonia Marathon the weekend before probably wasnt the best prep (hence the DNF).Registration was really straight forwards and the morning breifing covered everything that you neede to know.this is a tough ol course but the climbs are worth every step. mixed terrian with some road running so please wear suitable clothing so that you are visable to drivers. from the 13 miles or so of the course that i saw, you will love this race.
  • Did the event in 2017

The parking area looked massive on the map but soon runs out so get there early or be prepared for a mad dash round the local streets for a spot! 10 minutes walk to the start is easy and signposted, registration straight forward. Good to have use of the visitor centre for toilets and warmth but gets very overcrowded. I remember the start being a couple of miles of slow incline with decent scenery , nothing too tough. Much of the course is tarmac lanes, farm track and grassy track which I thought was a great mix. Only a few aid stations and basic, I would recommend being self sufficient. The hills are all bearable nothing too bad, but the very last one within a mile of the finish is a proper bastard when you’re dead on your feet. About a 20% gradient for about 500m roughly. Thankfully once over the top you can spring down to the finish. Shame the medal is generic, but you get a base tech shirt thrown in too

Bloody amazing day out with Shell! If you’ve not attempted this gigantic lump of a race then you’re needing to reset you’re priorities.

It’s tough, lumpy (6 times lumpy) with amazing views (past the mist) and cracking camaraderie!

Get it booked. In fact get the whole 5 days in the calender.

  • Did the event in 2018

It's a tough, challenging marathon. Very technical terrain - choose your footwear carefully. I went with massive cushioning for the rocky downhills 'cause I love those and needed to take advantage of them. Anything minimal will leave you tip-toeing those sections but maybe more sprightly up the climbs. It's a half mile long. Aim to run steady, even laps and save enough for the 3.5 road/trail leg back to HQ if you're running throughout the week - completing the 5 laps can feel like "I'm done" - but the run back can feel a very long way.
  • Did the event in 2017

I entered this event after completing the Bolton Hill Marathon. Despite an injury I still took part with some thanks to a generous cut off time. It's one marathon a day across 5 days. Complete one, two or all five! The event had a new HQ with loos, changing facilities etc. A canteen with hot drinks and food and free parking. The route was well marked and easy to follow. There were a few marshalls but the main crew was at the feed station at the start of tbe lap. No navigation was imo needed. It was a tough course which got tougher each lap! There was bling with the option to buy a tee. Unfortunately no race photography on the first days of event.A great event that you feel you've accomplished something at the end and you could collect all five medals which join to make one.

This is my 6th running of the Manchester run, in what is always one of my favourite events as it’s where it all started for me back in 2012.As usual registration and organisation was really simple as is the organisation of the day getting to the start and the collection of goody bag at the is a well oiled machine. The pacers do a great job motivating (I am one lol) and it’s great to try to spot celebs. This time though it just didn’t feel the same. The atmosphere was good but not quite the levels of the past. This was the first time I have experienced a fla spot between runners around the 7-8k mark, maybe it was the heat or just the fact there were less runners? Can t fault all the local turning out to support as usual they were great, but again feel it just wasn’t as highly supported as you got past old trafford. The finish line was amazing as usual.I feel that the 10k race is being affected by the HM taking its place in the morning, making it a long day for the locals to support with some 10k not even starting before the Tv coverage ends, some people running for charity not getting the opportunity to spot themselves on TV. Great run operate separate events for 10k and HM in Newcastle, why not do this in Manchester.Medals are a bit more imaginative lately with ok shirts, but apart from a chocolate or two, a breakfast bar and a drink, not much to shout about in the goody bags, put to shame the Southport Mad Dog bags.Weather was red hot this year, really needed a few more water stations, I’ve never seen so many people walking. I will be back again but not quite the event it was before the HM was introduced.Check out my video of the dayhttps://youtu.be/AdgxtsNS80g

I was lucky enough to receive a place on behalf of my local charity, the registration process was very simple. The pre race pack arrived in plenty of time and was very informative. The race was in 2 waves, 9am and 9:10am. Warmups were held for each wave. The weather was extremely hot and water stations were at the 5, 10, 15 and 20KM marks - bottles of water were handed out with no queues. The course is very uninspiring and it mentions in the pre race pack headphones wouldn't be required as there was plenty of entertainment along the course, if I were to run it again I would make sure I had music.A number of people required medical attention due to the heat, this was provided very quickly - thankfully. The course finished on Deansgate, thankfully my 9 year old son ran the last half a mile to get me over the line as by that point I was fit for nothing. The goody bags contained the medal, t shirt, flavoured juice, cereal bar and a few other items. Great medal, would I run it again - probably not

This race could be anything you wanted. A first foray in to trail running or a right laugh. It was tough going through streams and mud and there were some brutal hills and tricky to navigate downhills. However the views were gorgeous on a clear sunny day. I would’ve liked a veggie pie as an alternative to pork pie although there were little apple pies for us pork pie averse. It was a great atmosphere at the start although a reasonably low key event. Beware the ‘bog of doom’ where many a running shoe now resides. I miraculously managed to retrieve mine. All I all it was lovely and I’ll be booking this one next year. Highly recommend!

This Triathlon is a hilly course so if you like running and cycling uphill then this is the route for you. For the entry fee you get a t-shirt and that's it, no goodie bag upon completion, no medal, no gels on drink station, just a t-shirt. The security on the transition was extremely relaxed. I walked into transition with my bike and not stopped and checked and walked in and out 3 times before my swim and wasn't stopped once. I saw Non competitors strolling around transition chatting. Anyone could of walked in and helped themselves. My wife actually saw a women competitor walking into transition with the number on the shirt not matching the one on the bike ?? I was glad my wife was there as i wouldn't if felt comfortable leaving my bike while i was out running. The route from pool to transition was carpeted which was good, the bike route was hilly and temp filter lanes for cyclist were in place at junctions which help massively. There wasn't a lot of direction signs so i was glad i could see other riders in front to track my way. The run was up quite a long and very steep road. I'm not a brilliant runner and found this very difficult. It was STEEP. The locals were fantastic and really supported all the entrants. They really made the event for me. The Marshall's around the run route were also really friendly and encouraging. Would I do this again ? No i wouldn't. I think for the money you would expect a medal and finishers bag and gels on drinks stations.
  • Did the event in 2016

First let me say that I'm not a complainy person, and I was enjoying the event. Well organised registration, transition, etc. All the competitors were very friendly as well. Real family atmosphere. It was all going so well until about half way through the cycle when there was a well sign posted left turm at the bottom of a (another) hill. The marshall told me to go left, which I did, but then at a crossroads, there were no signs and the marshall was not interested in telling me the way. This meant that I carried straight on assuming that if I was supposed to trun left, I would have been advised by the marshall or some signage. I know marshals are voluteers, but the lady didn't seem particualry interested. Itw as not busty, as I was first there and no one directly behind me. It could have been such a good event for me, but it was let done by the signage and one or two marshals who didnt seem too interested in giving out information. Had to be praised out of them. Going wildy off track put a real dampener on the event for me. I dont know the area, so I rely on the marshals and signs.  Room for improvement. May come back next year, but haven't decided 100% yet.
  • Did the event in 2016

This pool-start triathlon was a great early season sprint course. Transition was well marshalled and signed, leading you from the pool to T1. Then out to face a very hilly 20K. Taking in three climbs up to scenic views across the Peaks valleys around Saddleworth. Following T2 it's a straight up and down climb over a very steep hill really taking the last out of your legs, before running as fast as possible down hill to the finish line. This was a well organised and marshalled race, providing a tough workout at the start of the season.
